Full Job Description

Make a significant impact in the classroom by supporting a 3rd grade student as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter in the Walnut Creek, CA area. This full-time contract opportunity offers you the chance to utilize your expertise and make a difference in an educational setting, working closely with teachers and students to facilitate communication and inclusion. The assignment begins as soon as possible and continues through June 4, 2025, offering stability for the entire school year.

Key Qualifications:

Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments, preferably with elementary-aged students
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Familiarity with interpreting in classroom settings and adapting to instructional styles
Ability to foster an inclusive, supportive learning atmosphere for young learners
Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and student advocacy
Certification or licensing as required by state or local guideline

Responsibilities:

Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and sign language during classroom instruction for a 3rd grade student
Support full participation and comprehension for the student in all instructional activities and class discussions
Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to adapt communication methods for individual student needs
Maintain accurate, confidential records as necessary per school policies
Serve as a communication bridge, fostering understanding between the student, peers, and staff throughout the school day (8 hours daily)
