ABOUT SFHDC The San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC) enhances housing stability and financial self-reliance for low-income residents, particularly in communities of color. African American community leaders founded SFHDC in 1988 to combat widespread displacement in the Fillmore and Bayview neighborhoods caused by urban renewal. Today, we empower San Francisco’s Black residents to remain in San Francisco or return if displaced. Annually, our integrated programs serve 5,000 people and have developed or preserved over 1,700 permanently affordable homes. Additionally, our Financial Empowerment Program provides over 1,000 clients with credit repair, rental-readiness, and financial capability training, which anchors our homelessness prevention efforts.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

“Ready, Set, Grow”: Homelessness Prevention & Housing Stability Through Financial Health “Ready, Set, Grow” is SFHDC’s homelessness prevention and housing retention initiative funded by Crankstart. The program integrates financial coaching, matched savings (IDAs), rental stabilization assistance, and wraparound case management to help at-risk households remain stably housed while building long-term financial security.

This program is a collaborative effort between SFHDC’s Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) and Resident Services. FEC provides financial coaching and education, while Resident Services leads resident engagement, case management, and housing stabilization support within SFHDC-managed RAD and non-senior housing sites.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Part-Time Mental Health Clinician delivers critical, on-site therapeutic support to vulnerable residents facing housing-related stressors and financial challenges. By providing direct services within SFHDC communities, the Clinician directly eliminates traditional barriers to care, such as long wait times and transportation issues. Collaborating alongside the Crankstart Case Manager, the Clinician supports up to 50 households annually, ensuring emotional wellness serves as a strong foundation for long-term housing stability.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver on-site mental health services to residents experiencing housing instability, financial anxiety, and related trauma.
Provide up to 26 hours of dedicated therapeutic service annually per assigned household.
Collaborate with the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) to integrate peer support programs and community education campaigns.
Facilitate open conversations to destigmatize mental health care within the community.
Partner with the Crankstart Case Manager to align therapeutic interventions with clients' personalized stabilization plans.
Track service uptake and participant progress to ensure the program meets key emotional wellness and wait-time reduction metrics.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Hold active clinical licensure as a qualified mental health professional (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or equivalent).
Demonstrate experience providing culturally attuned therapeutic support to low-income communities of color.
Address complex, compounding barriers, including trauma, substance use, domestic violence, and housing-related stressors.

Preferred

Possess deep knowledge of San Francisco’s social services and behavioral health landscape.
Integrate emotional wellness strategies seamlessly with financial resilience and housing retention goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Location & Travel: Travel regularly between San Francisco SFHDC sites (specifically Bayview and Western Addition). Maintain a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Work Setup: Deliver services on-site, while maintaining reliable internet for any remote or hybrid documentation.
Schedule: Work primarily on weekdays, accommodating occasional evenings or weekends to meet resident needs and facilitate workshops and events.

COMPENSATION

Rate: $55/hour (Allocated up to 1,300 hours annually).
