About the Role
Working under the direction of the Workflow Lead while collaborating closely with Operations Leadership, the Technical Field Specialist serves as the technical lead during field-based testing programs.
This position combines technical troubleshooting, mobile application testing, project coordination, field leadership, operator training, and hands-on data collection combined with physical activity.
You will not only perform testing yourself but will also guide Field Operators to ensure pilot programs are executed safely, accurately, and according to client specifications.

This position is based out of our San Jose, California office and supports field operations throughout the Bay Area.
Workdays frequently begin early in the morning, often between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, depending on client testing schedules from San Jose Office then complete in field work at various locations in the Bay Area.
This is not a traditional desk job.
A significant portion of your workday will be spent in the field supporting the testing and validation of fitness and activity tracking technologies. To accurately evaluate these products, team members actively participate in the same activities our client is measuring.
Candidates should be comfortable:
- Walking several miles throughout the day
- Hiking on trails and uneven terrain
- Running or jogging during testing sessions
- Cycling while operating test equipment
- Standing and walking for several consecutive hours
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Carrying multiple mobile devices, accessories, and testing equipment
- Traveling between multiple testing locations throughout the day
- Working independently while maintaining constant communication with the Operations Team
Candidates with personal or professional experience in activities such as hiking, trail running, cycling, endurance sports, fitness training, outdoor recreation, or similar physically active lifestyles are strongly encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
Pilot Planning & Preparation
- Partner with Client Project Managers and Operations Leadership to prepare successful program execution.
- Develop project charters and operational documentation.
- Validate and document workflows.
- Train Field Operators on procedures and device operation.
- Configure mobile devices, operating systems, applications, user accounts, and connectivity.
- Verify successful communication between devices and backend systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and application issues.
- Open, track, and help drive technical issue resolution with engineering teams.
- Prepare testing equipment for field deployment.
Field Operations
- Conduct trial runs prior to production testing.
- Lead and participate in field data collection.
- Coordinate and support Field Operators.
- Monitor pilot execution and testing quality.
- Troubleshoot devices and applications in real time.
- Collect diagnostic logs.
- Escalate technical issues when necessary.
- Communicate progress and testing status throughout the day.
Post-Operations
- Verify successful data uploads.
- Document pilot results.
- Report application downtime and defects.
- Track and manage bug resolution.
- Participate in data analysis.
- Recommend workflow improvements and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or 2–3 years of relevant technical support or testing experience.
- Minimum one year of mobile application QA testing or technical support experience.
- Experience troubleshooting Android and/or iOS devices.
- Experience using Google Workspace, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or similar tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.
- Professional client-facing communication skills.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
- Ability to travel locally throughout the Bay Area.
- Ability to pass required driving history standards.
Preferred
- Experience leading small teams.
- Mobile device testing experience.
- SQL, JavaScript, or scripting knowledge.
- Experience with bug tracking systems.
- Experience working with engineering or QA teams.
- Experience supporting field operations.

Background & Driving Requirements
- No DUI convictions within the past five years.
- No hit-and-run convictions.
- No driver's license suspensions within the past five years.
- No more than two moving violations or chargeable accidents within the past four years.
- Valid U.S. driver's license (temporary permits not accepted).
- International drivers must obtain a U.S. driver's license within 90 days of employment.
- Must successfully pass all required background screening requirements.
