Board-Certified Psychiatrist (Inpatient)

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Job Type: Locum Tenens Contract
Pay: $250-$270 per hour + Call Pay
Assignment: 13-week assignment beginning in October (with extension potential)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM | Shared call | Part-time may be available

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to provide inpatient psychiatric care at a state hospital in Hazard, Kentucky. This onsite locum opportunity offers the chance to work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team caring for adults with serious mental illnesses in a collaborative, well-supported clinical environment.

The facility consists of a 50-bed inpatient unit, with support from experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and an additional Psychiatrist, allowing providers to focus on delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment for adult inpatient psychiatric patients.
Manage patients with serious and persistent mental illnesses in a state hospital setting.
Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans, including medication management and ongoing psychiatric care.
Collaborate with PMHNPs, physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
Participate in shared call coverage as scheduled.
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation within the facility's electronic medical record system.
Participate in treatment team meetings and discharge planning to support continuity of care.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best clinical practices.

Qualifications

Board Certified in Psychiatry.
Active and unrestricted Kentucky medical license or eligibility through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC).
Experience providing inpatient psychiatric care.
Experience treating patients with severe and persistent mental illness.
Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary inpatient setting.

Compensation & Schedule

$250-$270 per hour
$2,000 per 24-hour call
$500-$520 per night call shift
Compensation is flexible and negotiable based on experience.
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Shared call responsibilities.
Part-time schedules may be considered.
13-week assignment beginning in October with the potential for extension.
