Full Job Description

Position Summary

Part-Time: Starts at 10-15 hours per week

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support our accounting and administrative functions. This is an entry-level position focused primarily on data entry, recordkeeping, and routine accounting tasks performed under the direction and supervision of accounting staff.

This position does not require a college degree or extensive accounting experience. We are looking for someone who is organized, accurate, comfortable working with numbers and computer systems, and willing to learn. Previous experience with accounting, bookkeeping, office administration, or data entry is a plus but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Enter accounting and financial information accurately into company systems.
Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable data entry and recordkeeping.
Enter and maintain invoices, purchase information, payments, and other financial records.
Review entered information for accuracy and completeness.
Assist with matching invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and other supporting documentation.
Organize, scan, file, and maintain accounting and business records.
Assist accounting staff with routine reconciliations and other basic accounting tasks.
Research simple discrepancies and bring questions or unusual items to the appropriate accounting staff member.
Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and other documents as requested.
Assist with maintaining accurate vendor and customer information.
Perform other accounting, clerical, and administrative duties as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, customer, and financial information.

Qualifications

Required

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and email.
Ability to perform accurate data entry.
Basic math skills and comfort working with numbers.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to follow established procedures and instructions.
Ability to identify errors or discrepancies and ask questions when necessary.
Dependable attendance and ability to complete assigned work in a timely manner.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

Preferred but not required

Previous experience with data entry, bookkeeping, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general office work.
Previous experience working with accounting or ERP software.
Familiarity with invoices, purchase orders, and other basic business documents.
Experience using Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic spreadsheets.

Experience and Education

This position is intended to be accessible to candidates who are beginning a career in accounting or office administration. A college degree is not required. Previous accounting or data-entry experience is helpful, but we are willing to train a candidate who demonstrates strong attention to detail, reliability, computer skills, and a willingness to learn.

Position Expectations

The Accounting Assistant will work under the supervision of experienced accounting personnel. The position may be given additional accounting responsibilities as the employee gains experience and demonstrates proficiency. Accuracy, confidentiality, reliability, and attention to detail are essential to success in this role.

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
