Per Diem: $178/day for lodging and meals + $60/day rental car allowance
Job Description
Broadstaff is seeking Level 1 and Level 2 Optical/Fiber Technicians for nationwide travel assignments supporting telecommunications and transport network deployments. This role involves fiber characterization, optical testing, equipment installation, cabling, transport network support, and testing in Central Offices, data centers, colocation facilities, huts, and outdoor enclosures.
Level 1 candidates should have telecommunications installation, cabling, or low-voltage experience with strong technical aptitude. Candidates who successfully complete the required certifications will have the opportunity to advance to Level 2.
Key Qualifications
- Experience with telecommunications installation, fiber optics, structured cabling, or low-voltage systems.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications on a PC and smart device.
- Understanding of Ethernet and serial connections for communication with network equipment.
- Ability to use telecom test equipment including:
- OTDR
- Fiber Scope
- Volt/Ohm Meter
- BER Test Sets
- Cable Test Equipment
- Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
- Knowledge of fiber handling, cleaning, inspection, protection, and installation best practices.
- Understanding of DWDM, optical transport, Ethernet, and OTN technologies.
- Ability to install and test Cat5/6 cables.
- Ability to read engineering documents including RFVs, Signal Flow Diagrams, Circuit Drawings, MOPs, and Scope of Work documents.
- Knowledge of AC/DC power installation practices including -48V systems, power bays, crimping, H-Taps, torque tools, and safe power termination.
- Familiarity with Telcordia GR-1275 installation standards.
- Experience working with equipment from manufacturers such as Ciena, Cisco, AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, or similar is preferred.
- Must own telecom insulated hand tools.
- Ability to work independently and in team environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to travel 100% nationwide, typically for three consecutive weeks at a time.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fiber characterization, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting.
- Install and route fiber and copper cabling.
- Install telecommunications equipment in Central Offices, data centers, and customer facilities.
- Test optical circuits using OTDR, BER testers, VFLs, and other telecom test equipment.
- Inspect and clean fiber connectors using proper industry techniques.
- Install and terminate DC power safely following customer standards.
- Read and execute engineering drawings and Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.
- Support equipment turn-up, testing, and documentation.
- Maintain quality workmanship while following customer and safety standards.
- Work closely with customers and remote support teams to complete assigned projects.
