The Montana Medical Association (MMA) is seeking an experienced, innovative association professional to serve as Director of Association Services, Membership & Programs. This senior staff position works directly with the Chief Executive Officer and has significant responsibility for membership growth, association management services, grants and development, programs and professional education, conferences and events, analytics, executive reporting, and strategic project administration.

What You Will Lead
Membership Growth & Member Value
Develop and implement strategies to achieve substantial membership growth while strengthening retention, engagement, and value. Analyze membership trends and performance, identify prospective members and opportunities within eligible membership categories, develop acquisition and retention strategies, conduct member research, and recommend new benefits, programs, resources, education, and services. Develop membership KPIs, dashboards, projections, and executive reporting.
Association Management Services & Growth
Administer associations and nonprofit organizations managed by MMA under contract, including governance, membership, programs, education, meetings, reporting, records, and contractual deliverables. Build trusted client relationships while researching prospective organizations and helping expand MMA's association management portfolio and revenue.
Grants & Development
Bring demonstrated professional grant experience and help substantially expand funding for MMA, the MMA Foundation, managed organizations, and approved programs. Research and qualify foundation, corporate, government, healthcare, institutional, and other funding opportunities; maintain a robust funding pipeline; develop competitive proposals, narratives, work plans, outcomes, and supporting materials; coordinate budgets with finance; administer awards, compliance, reporting, renewals, and closeout; and develop relationships with funders and partners. Support Foundation prospect research, development administration, sponsorship opportunities, and Legacy 150 initiatives under CEO direction.
Programs, Resources & Professional Education
Research needs and develop new programs, member resources, professional development, continuing education, webinars, workshops, educational series, and other services. Manage approved programs from development through implementation and evaluation, including continuing education requirements and documentation. Use participation, outcomes, member feedback, and financial performance to continuously improve offerings.
Conferences, Meetings & Events
Provide experienced project leadership for assigned conferences, educational programs, meetings, and events, including programming, speakers, vendors, sponsors, registration, budgets, continuing education, logistics, and evaluation.
Analytics, Executive Reporting & CEO Projects
Develop KPIs, dashboards, forecasts, executive reports, and performance analyses across assigned areas. Translate data into meaningful recommendations for the CEO and Board. Administer complex CEO projects through research, work plans, stakeholder coordination, timeline and deliverable management, executive materials, and disciplined follow-through.
This is not an executive assistant position. It is a Director-level professional role requiring independent judgment, analytical capability, project ownership, initiative, and accountability.
What You Bring
Candidates must have at least seven years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in association or nonprofit management, professional membership organizations, healthcare, medical associations, programs, professional education, hospitality, conferences and events, grants, or a closely related environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial experience across several of the following:
- Membership growth, retention, and engagement
- Association or nonprofit management
- Grant research, writing, administration, and reporting
- Program and resource development
- Professional development and continuing education
- Conferences and event management
- Project management
- Analytics, KPIs, dashboards, and executive reporting
- Boards, committees, contracts, and client relationships
Exceptional research, writing, analytical, organizational, presentation, relationship-building, and project management skills are essential.
Healthcare or medical association experience is preferred. The successful candidate should understand, or possess the ability to quickly develop a sophisticated understanding of, physician practice environments, healthcare delivery, medical education, healthcare organizations, professional terminology, and issues affecting physicians and medicine.
A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
Certified Association Executive (CAE) and/or Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) credentials are preferred.

Working at MMA
This is a full-time, in-person position in MMA's professional Helena office with ample on-site parking.
