Medical Billing Reconciliation Specialist

Location: Palm Springs, CA (On-site) Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing Reconciliation Specialist to join our healthcare team. This position is responsible for reconciling medical claims and payments to ensure all insurance reimbursements have been accurately received, posted, and followed through to completion. This position is the assistant to the Medical Billing Manager.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with electronic remittance advice (ERAs), explanation of benefits (EOBs), medical claims, and practice management software. Experience with Office Ally is highly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

Reconcile insurance payments against billed claims.
Compare billed amounts to payments received and identify outstanding balances.
Verify patient/member information, dates of service, CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers, and payer adjustments.
Research and identify unpaid, partially paid, denied, and underpaid claims.
Work aging reports and document all follow-up activities.
Review electronic remittance advice (835 ERA) and explanation of benefits (EOBs).
Ensure payment posting and reconciliation are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
Communicate with insurance carriers when additional research is required.
Maintain accurate documentation of reconciliation activities.
Assist in identifying billing trends and opportunities to improve collections.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of medical billing and payment reconciliation experience.
Experience with Office Ally or similar medical billing software preferred.
Knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare, and commercial insurance billing.
Understanding of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, modifiers, and insurance payment methodologies. Medical Coding Certification preferred but not required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Performance Expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Reconcile approximately 60–80 payment transactions per hour, depending on claim complexity.
Maintain a high level of accuracy while identifying outstanding balances, denials, underpayments, and payment discrepancies.
Meet established productivity and quality standards while ensuring proper documentation of all reconciliation activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or equivalent certification.
Certification as a CPT Coding Specialist or other recognized medical coding credential (such as CPC or CCS) is preferred but not required.
Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management.
Familiarity with electronic claim submission and ERA reconciliation.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
