Summary. As a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, the assistant professor or associate professor in this position is responsible for teaching courses within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, engaging in scholarly activity, and conducting committee work as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches courses within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with a total load of up to twenty-seven hours per academic year (approximately 7 graduate courses per year).
- Participates in student recruitment and promotion.
- Assists the Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program and other core faculty in the ongoing evaluation of applicants, students, and candidates in the program as a core faculty member of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
- Assists the Department Chair, Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, and other core-faculty in the ongoing evaluation of and improvement of the program as a core faculty member of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
- Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to Clinical Mental Health Counseling knowledge and practice.
- Maintains a minimum of 10 office hours per week for student availability.
- Schedules administrative time for classroom preparation.
- Engages in scholarly research or other creative achievement activity.
- Serves on university committees as assigned.
- Conducts servant leadership in the community.
- Abides by all University policies governing behavior and in fulfillment of job requirements.

Requirements:
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
Applicants should hold an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. Applicants with a related doctoral degree and who have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counseling program at another institution for at least one full academic year prior to July 1, 2013 may also be considered.
A demonstrated history, competence in, and commitment to quality teaching courses at the graduate level is preferred.
At least two years of experience as a professional clinical counselor is preferred. State licensure in counseling is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other faculty members, as well as students.
Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills as demonstrated through prior work experiences.
Evidence of prior scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and/or teaching and learning is preferred. Commitment to ongoing scholarship is required.
Language Skills
Ability to effectively lecture in a classroom environment. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, administrators and parents.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate descriptive and predictive statistics.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate computer proficiency in the following areas: spreadsheet software, word processing software, presentation software, statistical software and other software that may increase productivity and efficiency. An individual must also demonstrate a willingness to learn and use new software related to functional responsibilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A state license as a professional counselor (ie. Licensed Professional Counselor/Mental Health Services Provider) is preferred, as is holding the National Certified Counselor credential.
