Join a global engineering leader delivering mission-critical infrastructure projects and play a pivotal role in protecting commercial outcomes across complex capital programs.

Commercial Contract Manager (Construction)

About the Role

A global engineering and infrastructure organization delivering large-scale, mission-critical construction programs is expanding its in-house commercial function. Due to rapid project growth across multiple US regions, the company is building a specialist Commercial & Contract Management team embedded within its legal and project governance structure.

This role plays a key part in protecting commercial outcomes across complex capital projects, from preconstruction through execution and closeout, with a strong focus on contract risk, change management, and claims avoidance/mitigation.

The organization is increasingly acting as a direct delivery partner on major greenfield and advanced industrial facilities and is strengthening internal capability in commercial diligence and construction contract governance.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead commercial and contract management activities across large-scale construction projects from preconstruction through delivery
Perform commercial diligence and risk review during early project stages, including contract structuring and contractor engagement strategies
Manage and assess change orders, variations, and delay events, ensuring accurate entitlement and exposure analysis
Oversee extension of time (EOT) claims, liquidated damages exposure, and dispute prevention strategies
Provide commercial input during preconstruction planning, procurement, and contractor onboarding
Support negotiation and resolution of complex contractual issues with general contractors and major subcontractors
Analyze contractor submissions, including claims, schedule impacts, and cost escalation requests
Work closely with legal, project directors, and construction teams to ensure contractual compliance and commercial control
Identify and mitigate commercial risk across multiple concurrent projects
Contribute to the development of standardized commercial governance and contract management processes globally
Act as escalation point for high-impact commercial issues affecting cost, schedule, or contractual liability

Project Environment:

Large-scale greenfield and industrial construction projects (multi-site US portfolio)
High complexity programs involving significant civil, mechanical, and infrastructure scope
Fast-moving project environments with active contractor interfaces and schedule pressure
Exposure to major capital investment programs with global visibility

Required Experience & Background:

Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline preferred
Strong background in general contracting or major subcontractor environments
Demonstrated experience across:
Preconstruction commercial planning and procurement support
Change order management and delay/impact analysis
Claims, EOTs, and liquidated damages exposure
Commercial diligence and contract risk evaluation
Strong understanding of construction contract structures and commercial/legal principles
Experience working on large-scale industrial, infrastructure, or manufacturing projects preferred
Comfortable managing difficult commercial negotiations with external stakeholders
Strong analytical mindset with attention to contractual detail and financial risk
Civil engineering background preferred
