Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Josephine is a vibrant French brasserie inspired by the cafés of Paris. Set within a beautifully restored historic firehouse, Josephine combines timeless French cuisine, an exceptional wine and cocktail program, and gracious hospitality to create unforgettable dining experiences.

We are seeking passionate, polished, and hospitality-driven Servers who are committed to providing genuine, personalized service and creating memorable moments for every guest.

Position Summary

At Josephine, a server is more than someone who takes orders—they are a host, guide, and ambassador for the restaurant. Our servers are expected to anticipate guests' needs, possess extensive menu knowledge, and deliver warm, intuitive hospitality that exceeds expectations.

The ideal candidate is personable, detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in creating exceptional dining experiences.

ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience

Welcome every guest with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality.
Build rapport with guests and personalize each dining experience.
Anticipate guests' needs before they have to ask.
Guide guests through the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations based on preferences.
Create memorable celebrations for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
Resolve guest concerns with professionalism and urgency.
Maintain Josephine's elevated service standards throughout every shift.

Food & Beverage Knowledge

Develop comprehensive knowledge of:
All food menus
Daily features and seasonal offerings
Wine list
Cocktails
Beer
Spirits
Dessert menu
Confidently recommend wine and cocktail pairings.
Explain ingredients, preparation methods, and dietary accommodations.
Stay current on menu changes and beverage education.

Service Standards

Execute Josephine's Steps of Service with consistency and attention to detail.
Deliver food and beverages accurately and efficiently.
Maintain tables throughout the meal, anticipating guest needs.
Coordinate effectively with bartenders, food runners, support staff, and the kitchen.
Ensure every guest leaves feeling valued and appreciated.

Teamwork

Support fellow servers and assist wherever needed.
Communicate effectively with managers and kitchen staff.
Contribute to a positive, professional team culture.
Assist with opening, closing, and side work responsibilities.

Operations

Accurately enter orders using Toast POS.
Process payments accurately.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned stations.
Follow all health, safety, and responsible alcohol service guidelines.

Qualifications

Previous serving experience in an upscale or full-service restaurant preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Passion for hospitality and guest service
Professional appearance and demeanor
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Positive attitude and team-first mindset
Virginia ABC certification (or ability to obtain)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in fine dining or upscale casual restaurants
Knowledge of French cuisine and dining etiquette
Familiarity with wine service and classic cocktails
Wine education (WSET, CMS, or equivalent) is a plus
Experience using Toast POS preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Lift and carry trays weighing up to 40 pounds
Bend, reach, and move quickly throughout service
Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
