Schedule: Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (or as assigned)

Position Summary
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) provides comprehensive behavioral health assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and care coordination for adults receiving Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) services. The clinician functions as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and ensures services are delivered in accordance with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), HIPAA, Human Rights Regulations, and agency policies.
The clinician promotes recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered behavioral health services that improve psychiatric stability, functioning, and quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments.
- Complete mental status examinations.
- Perform suicide, homicide, and violence risk assessments.
- Establish or confirm DSM-5-TR diagnoses within scope of practice.
- Determine medical necessity for Mental Health PHP services.
- Recommend appropriate levels of behavioral health care.
- Complete reassessments as clinically indicated.
Treatment Planning
- Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans.
- Establish measurable treatment goals and objectives.
- Update treatment plans based upon clinical progress and medical necessity.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Coordinate discharge planning beginning at admission.
Direct Clinical Services
- Facilitate evidence-based psychotherapy groups.
- Provide individual psychotherapy.
- Conduct family therapy when clinically appropriate.
- Provide psychoeducation.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), when appropriate
Crisis Intervention
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies.
- Develop crisis prevention and safety plans.
- Coordinate emergency psychiatric evaluations.
- Complete emergency documentation.
- Coordinate hospitalization or higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
Care Coordination
- Coordinate services with:
- Psychiatrists
- Primary Care Providers
- Community Services Boards (CSBs)
- Hospitals
- Case Managers
- Residential Providers
- Community Behavioral Health Providers
- Family members and natural supports (with appropriate consent)
Documentation
Complete timely, accurate, and person-centered documentation including:
- Biopsychosocial Assessments
- Progress Notes
- Treatment Plans
- Treatment Plan Reviews
- Group Notes
- Individual Therapy Notes
- Family Therapy Notes
- Crisis Documentation
- Discharge Summaries
- Care Coordination Documentation
Documentation shall meet all applicable DBHDS, DMAS, HIPAA, and payer requirements.
Quality Improvement
- Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Participate in utilization review activities.
- Assist with clinical audits.
- Monitor treatment outcomes.
- Participate in Performance Improvement Projects.
- Assist with accreditation and licensing reviews.
Compliance
Maintain compliance with:
- Virginia DBHDS Licensing Regulations
- Virginia Human Rights Regulations
- HIPAA
- DMAS documentation requirements
- Agency policies and procedures
- Ethical standards of professional licensure
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Psychologist
- Resident or Supervisee recognized by the Virginia Board (when permitted by program policy)
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) who also meets all requirements for the position, if applicable
Education
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following:
- Social Work
- Counseling
- Clinical Psychology
- Marriage and Family Therapy
- Rehabilitation Counseling
- Human Services (when meeting Virginia LMHP requirements)
- Behavioral Sciences or a closely related field
Licensure
Current, unrestricted Virginia license or credential as applicable:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Psychologist
- Licensed Eligible Resident/Supervisee (if approved by the agency)
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) credential when required
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of behavioral health clinical experience.
- Experience in Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Crisis Stabilization, or inpatient psychiatric settings.
- Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups.
- Experience working with adults experiencing serious mental illness.
- Knowledge of DBHDS licensing regulations.
- Knowledge of DMAS medical necessity requirements.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR).

Required Certifications
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within orientation period).
- Current Virginia license in good standing.
- Successful criminal background investigation.
- Successful Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services screening, as applicable.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, if travel is required.

Working Conditions
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) works in a structured outpatient behavioral health setting providing services to adults with behavioral health diagnoses. The position requires frequent interaction with individuals receiving services, family members, interdisciplinary team members, referral sources, hospitals, Community Services Boards, and community providers.
