Technical Customer Support & Product R&D Specialist
Part-Time | 24 Hours per Week | In-House | South Florida
A South Florida-based product development and e-commerce company in the 3D printing and maker-tools industry is seeking a part-time Technical Customer Support & Product R&D Specialist.
This is a hands-on role for someone with deep practical experience in 3D printing, machine maintenance, troubleshooting, product testing, CAD, visual communication, and customer support. The position combines technical support, new product testing, documentation, and content creation.
Position Overview
This is an in-house, part-time position requiring approximately 24 hours per week at our South Florida location.
The role is divided approximately as follows:
- 25% technical customer support
- 50% new product R&D, testing, and evaluation
- 25% video, graphics, documentation, and digital asset creation
We are looking for someone who is highly technical, organized, communicative, and comfortable working in a fast-moving product environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Support — Approximately 25%
- Answer customer technical support inquiries in a clear, professional, and helpful manner.
- Troubleshoot customer issues related to 3D printing, product setup, installation, machine compatibility, adhesion, calibration, and general usage.
- Help customers understand product best practices and resolve technical challenges.
- Identify repeated customer issues and help improve instructions, support materials, and documentation.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both beginners and advanced users.
Product R&D and Testing — Approximately 50%
- Test new and existing products related to 3D printing, digital fabrication, and maker workflows.
- Operate, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot 3D printers and related equipment.
- Assist with product validation, product improvement, and new product development.
- Document test results, failures, improvements, and technical observations.
- Help evaluate product concepts, materials, fixtures, accessories, and workflows.
- Support hands-on prototyping, testing, comparison studies, and product refinement.
Video, Graphics, and Asset Creation — Approximately 25%
- Assist in creating technical guides, product instructions, visual assets, and support materials.
- Help produce or edit videos, tutorials, demonstrations, and product explanation content.
- Use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to prepare graphics, callouts, diagrams, and customer-facing documentation.
- Translate technical procedures into clear visual and written communication.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with 3D printing, especially FDM printing; resin printing experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 3D printer maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, slicing, materials, adhesion, and repair.
- Working knowledge of various slicers such as Orca, Prusa, Bambu, Chittubox
- Experience with other fabrication equipment such as lasers, CNC machines, or similar maker/prototyping tools.
- Working knowledge of CAD, especially Fusion 360.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical subjects clearly and professionally.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn a broad technical product line and understand customer challenges.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Video editing experience.
- Familiarity with AI tools and AI workflow integrations.
- Experience creating tutorials, documentation, technical content, or product videos.
- Experience with product development, product testing, or technical support in a maker, engineering, or e-commerce environment.
- Familiarity with online customer support systems and digital content workflows.
- Knowledge of Firmware and basic programming
Compensation
This position pays $20–$24 per hour, depending on experience, proficiency, and demonstrated skill level.
Schedule and Location
- Part-time position.
- Approximately 24 hours per week.
- In-house position at a South Florida location.
