Position Summary
Mended Rose Construction is seeking an experienced carpenter and skilled tradesperson with strong abilities in residential framing and tile installation.
This is not an entry-level laborer or apprentice position. We are looking for someone who can arrive at a jobsite, understand the scope of work, plan the required steps, and produce professional results with limited supervision. The right candidate will understand proper construction methods, take pride in craftsmanship, and be comfortable working in occupied homes.
Our projects include residential remodeling, additions, decks, bathrooms, basements, windows, doors, and exterior improvements throughout Eastern Iowa.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform residential framing, including walls, floors, ceilings, roof systems, decks, stairs, openings, headers, and structural repairs.
- Lay out framing accurately and consistently produce work that is plumb, level, square, properly fastened, and code compliant.
- Read and interpret plans, measurements, specifications, and job scopes.
- Complete tile installations for showers, bathroom floors, backsplashes, and other residential applications.
- Properly prepare tile substrates using cement board, uncoupling membranes, waterproofing systems, shower pans, and approved setting materials.
- Lay out, cut, set, grout, and finish tile with clean lines, consistent spacing, controlled lippage, and professional transitions.
- Perform selective demolition while protecting surrounding finishes and occupied areas.
- Install doors, windows, trim, blocking, cabinetry, and other finish components when required.
- Identify hidden conditions or construction concerns and communicate them before proceeding.
- Maintain an organized jobsite and protect customers’ homes, furnishings, and property.
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, crew members, subcontractors, and homeowners.
- Follow company procedures, manufacturer requirements, building codes, and jobsite safety standards.
- Complete assigned work efficiently without sacrificing workmanship.
- Lead an independent crew on daily tasks, and maintain project timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of verifiable professional residential construction, carpentry, or remodeling experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in residential framing and structural layout.
- Demonstrated proficiency in professional tile installation, including substrate preparation and waterproofing.
- Ability to perform skilled work independently and accurately with limited supervision.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, fastening methods, materials, and accepted building practices.
- Ability to recognize out-of-square, out-of-level, damaged, or improperly prepared conditions before installation.
- Ability to use framing, layout, cutting, fastening, and tile-setting tools safely and proficiently.
- Ability to calculate measurements, material quantities, angles, elevations, and layout dimensions.
- Own a dependable set of basic hand tools appropriate for professional carpentry work.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between Eastern Iowa jobsites.
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 75 pounds and perform physical construction work throughout the day.
- Professional appearance, respectful communication, and appropriate conduct while working in customers’ homes.
- Authorization to work legally in the United States.
- Ability to provide professional references and examples or photographs of completed work.
