Full Job Description

Law Offices of Matthew K. Rogers, PLLC – Hickory, NC

Experienced Paralegal needed for small but busy firm, with extensive experience in civil litigation required and some knowledge of business law preferred.

About us - We practice Business Law and Civil Litigation, focusing primarily on business and contract matters, in surrounding counties' North Carolina State Courts and occasionally in Federal Courts and North Carolina Business Court.

Responsibilities:

- Draft correspondence and legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, discovery, notices of hearing, affidavits, orders and judgments, etc.

- Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, exhibits, discovery, and other legal documents, and ensure everything is scanned and saved digitally to case management software (Clio) and in paper file.

- Calendaring deadlines, reminders, and preparing Motions for Extension of Time; coordinate depositions, mediations, transcriptions by court reporters, court dates for hearings, client meetings, attorney CLE's, and more.

- Manage Discovery, including drafting requests and responses, organizing, Bates stamping, and cataloging discovery documents.

- Assist with Hearing and Trial preparation, including creating exhibit lists linked to digital files, organizing/preparing hard copies of exhibits, preparing and serving trial subpeonas.

- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for cases.

- Proofread legal documents for accuracy and completeness.

- Perform general clerical duties as needed, such as answering phone calls, managing calendars, handling correspondence, scanning, copying, filing, mailing, and ordering office supplies.

- Run errands as needed, such as filing documents at county courthouses, checking the post office box, and delivering or picking up documents from other attorneys' offices.

Qualifications:

- At least two years' experience working as a paralegal in civil litigation required
- Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and legal terminology
- Excellent organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines, and work well under pressure
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed
- Ability to read and analyze complex documents
- Strong research and problem solving skills
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents
- Personable, clear verbal communication skills on phone and in person

Preferred:

- Knowledge and familiarity with business law
- Proficiency in using Clio (firm management software) or similar document management system, Adobe Pro, Microsoft Word and Excel.
