Full Job Description

Stabb Designs is a design-build and advanced manufacturing shop working across industrial, architectural, and custom automation projects. We take on work that doesn’t have off-the-shelf solutions — and build it from concept through fabrication to installation.

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly capable fabricator/machinist to build custom components and assemblies from drawings and 3D models.

This is a high-mix, low-volume environment where every project is different. Your primary focus will be shop work — machining, fabrication, and assembly — with the expectation that you can occasionally support installation, troubleshooting, repair in the field when needed as well as support shop organization and cleanliness.

You will work directly from in-house designs and be expected to plan your approach, execute accurately, and think through challenges during the build process. This role also requires someone who can step into a leadership role when needed, coordinating with others and helping move projects forward.

What You’ll Do

Fabricate and machine custom components and assemblies from drawings and 3D models
Operate CNC equipment (mill, waterjet, press brake) with minimal supervision
Perform MIG, TIG, and/or laser welding to a high standard
Plan fabrication approach, sequencing, and setups for efficient builds
Fit, finish, and assemble parts to a high level of quality
Identify and communicate issues or improvements in design or fabrication
Support installation, troubleshooting, and repair work in the field (as needed)
Assist with diagnosing and resolving basic mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues
Coordinate with other employees and assist in guiding work when required
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop
Support installations in the field as needed

What We’re Looking For

Strong background in fabrication and/or machining
Interest in mechanical modification
Ability to modify/adapt existing machinery components
Proven ability to work from drawings and 3D models with accuracy
Ability to think through builds and solve problems independently
Understanding of mechanical systems, motion, and industrial equipment
Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems (wiring, sensors, actuators)
Willingness and ability to support occasional field work and troubleshooting
Ability to coordinate work and step into a leadership role when needed
High attention to detail and pride in finished work
Self-motivated, reliable, and accountable

Bonus (Not Required, But Valuable)

Experience with CAD/CAM (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, etc.)
CNC programming experience
Experience with automation, PLCs, or controls systems
Strong welding capability (MIG/TIG/laser)

Not a repetitive production role
Not a design-heavy position
