About the Role We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Maintenance Technician 1 to join our maintenance team in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone starting their career in industrial maintenance. You will work closely with experienced technicians and the Lead Maintenance Technician to support equipment reliability, perform basic repairs and preventive maintenance, and help keep production running smoothly with minimal downtime. This role offers strong training and growth opportunities toward higher-level technician positions.
THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN 1 RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Equipment Maintenance & Reliability (Hands-On Support)
· Assist with basic troubleshooting and repairs on production equipment under supervision: shellers, roasters, sorters, conveyors, packaging machines, dust collection systems, pneumatic systems, etc.
· Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, inspections, cleaning, and minor adjustments to help keep equipment running efficiently.
· Observe operations and report potential issues or recurring problems to senior technicians or the Lead.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Program
· Complete assigned preventive maintenance (PM) tasks accurately and on time.
· Learn and follow PM procedures; documenting all tasks in the system to meet all food safety and safety requirements
· Support basic predictive maintenance activities (e.g., helping with oil checks, visual inspections, or simple measurements) as trained.
Team Support & Development
· Work alongside and learn from senior technicians, mechanics, and the Lead Maintenance Technician.
· Participate in on-the-job training on equipment, basic troubleshooting, safety procedures, and company standards.
· Help maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Safety & Food Safety Compliance
· Follow all safety protocols including OSHA, lockout/tagout (LOTO), GMPs, HACCP, SQF, and food-safety regulations including documentation.
· Maintain sanitary conditions during all maintenance activities to prevent product contamination (especially important in an allergen environment like hazelnuts).
· Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Work Order, Documentation & Parts Management
· Assist with reviewing and completing basic work orders and documenting them in our tracking database.
· Document repairs, parts used, and basic observations clearly and accurately.
· Help track and organize parts and tools as directed.
Coordination & Communication
· Communicate clearly with team members, production staff, and supervisors about ongoing work and any issues.
· Assist in prioritizing daily tasks based on production needs and safety.
· Help coordinate with production to perform maintenance with minimal disruption.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
· Support small maintenance projects or equipment upgrades as part of a team.
· Learn lean manufacturing basics and suggest simple ideas to improve efficiency or reduce waste.
· Participate in training to build skills for future growth.
Emergency Response & Breakdown Support
· Respond promptly to equipment issues during your shift as directed.
· Assist senior technicians during breakdowns to help restore operations safely and quickly.
· Observe and learn troubleshooting techniques for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or basic controls issues.
What You Bring
· 0-2 years of industrial maintenance, mechanical, or related hands-on experience (food, manufacturing, automotive, or agricultural a plus; entry-level candidates encouraged to apply).
· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in maintenance, mechanics, or related field is a plus.
· Basic computer skills (data entry, email, and reporting).
· Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
· Valid driver’s license and must be able to pass a DMV background check.
· Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn troubleshooting (mechanical, basic electrical, pneumatic).
· Strong interest in food safety (GMP, HACCP, SQF) and OSHA regulations.
· Ability to read basic schematics or diagrams with training.
· Reliable, safety-focused, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a team environment.
· Good communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
· Some experience in manufacturing, food processing, or nut/agricultural environments.
· Basic knowledge of tools, hand/power tools, and safe work practices.
· Familiarity with CMMS systems or willingness to learn quickly.
· Interest in pursuing certifications (e.g., industrial maintenance, mechatronics) or further training.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
· Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Temperatures below 50 degrees.
· Exposure to a loud working environment, hearing protection is mandatory.
· Must be able to work in environment containing allergens (hazelnuts, etc.).
· Required to use hands and fingers.
· Frequently required to talk or hear.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, bend, climb, and work in tight spaces as needed.
