About Ascent Insurance Solutions
Ascent Insurance Solutions is a growing independent commercial insurance brokerage specializing in workers' compensation, contractors, public entities, and established middle-market businesses.
We believe commercial insurance is about far more than placing policies. We help our clients control costs, improve workplace safety, navigate complex coverage issues, and protect the businesses and organizations they've worked hard to build.
We're a collaborative, high-energy team that values technical expertise, curiosity, initiative, accountability, and exceptional client care. As a small and growing agency, every team member has a meaningful impact on our clients and our continued growth.
About the Role
We're looking for a Licensed Commercial Lines CSR who has a solid commercial insurance foundation and wants the opportunity to grow into a true Commercial Lines Account Manager role.
This is not an outbound sales position, and you do not need to love cold calling.
You do need to be comfortable picking up the phone, talking with business owners and decision-makers, asking good questions, recognizing opportunities, and helping move an interested prospect or existing client toward a solution.
The starting role is heavily focused on the technical side of commercial insurance, including marketing accounts, preparing renewals, working with underwriters, comparing quotes and coverages, preparing proposals, and supporting our clients and producers.
As you demonstrate technical competency, judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage client relationships, the role is designed to grow into greater account ownership and Account Manager responsibilities.
This position is scheduled approximately 33-36 hours per week within our core business hours. We believe great work does not require living at the office, but we do expect our team to be present, engaged, and available to our clients and each other during scheduled hours.
What You'll Do
Commercial Marketing & Renewals
- Support new business and renewal marketing by gathering underwriting information, updating rating exposures, completing carrier portal submissions, and preparing formal submissions when needed.
- Work directly with carrier underwriters throughout the quoting and renewal process.
- Obtain, review, and compare quotes, coverage options, deductibles, terms, and conditions.
- Prepare renewal information and help identify changes in exposures, coverage needs, and market strategy.
- Prepare professional client proposals and coverage comparisons.
- Follow up with carriers and clients to keep accounts moving and meet deadlines.
Incoming New Business
- Take incoming commercial quote request calls and confidently communicate with prospective clients.
- Gather the underwriting information necessary to evaluate and market eligible opportunities.
- Identify appropriate carrier options and run markets.
- Prepare and present quotes and proposals for smaller commercial accounts within your level of experience.
- Support producers with market runs, underwriting submissions, coverage comparisons, and proposal preparation for larger or more complex opportunities.
- Follow through on assigned opportunities from initial inquiry through quote and binding.
- Recognize opportunities to round existing client accounts and bring additional lines of coverage to Ascent when appropriate.
Client & Account Support
- Respond to client questions and assist with coverage and policy needs within your level of authority and experience.
- Maintain complete and accurate account documentation within our agency management system and internal workflows.
- Review policies, endorsements, proposals, and other documents for accuracy.
- Assist with audits, cancellations, renewals, underwriting requests, and other account needs.
- Provide backup support for certificates of insurance, endorsements, and routine policy changes when service volume requires it.
- Escalate complex coverage or account issues appropriately while continuing to own the follow-through.
Technology at Ascent
Technical aptitude is extremely important to us.
Commercial insurance today relies heavily on agency management systems, carrier portals, automation, digital workflows, and increasingly, AI-assisted technology.
We use technology and AI-assisted tools to streamline tasks such as preparing ACORD and supplemental applications, organizing underwriting information, reviewing coverage documents, comparing coverage, and preparing proposals.
Technology assists the process. It does not replace professional judgment.
Every submission, coverage comparison, recommendation, and client deliverable requires human review. You must be able to recognize when something doesn't look right, research the issue, and correct it rather than assuming the system got it right.
If you're naturally curious, learn new software quickly, enjoy figuring things out, and are usually the person who finds a better way to accomplish something, you'll probably enjoy working here.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Active Colorado Property & Casualty insurance license.
- Commercial lines insurance experience.
- Working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and policy servicing.
- Experience working with carrier portals and underwriting information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical aptitude and comfort learning new systems.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities without losing track of follow-up.
- Confidence communicating directly with clients, prospects, underwriters, and carrier representatives.
- Ability to work independently after appropriate training.
You do not need to know everything on day one. You do need a solid commercial insurance foundation, curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly.
Account Manager Growth Track
We're not simply looking for someone to process transactions forever.
A successful person in this position will have the opportunity to develop into a Commercial Lines Account Manager with increasing responsibility for:
- Managing assigned client relationships.
- Leading renewal strategy.
- Independently marketing more complex accounts.
- Reviewing coverage and identifying gaps.
- Presenting recommendations to clients.
- Account rounding and cross-selling.
- Managing commercial opportunities from intake through binding.
- Taking greater ownership of retention and the overall client experience.
Growth is based on demonstrated ability, performance, and agency needs, not simply time in the position.
Compensation & Growth
- Base of $40,000-$50,000, depending on commercial insurance experience and demonstrated ability.
- New business commission opportunities on eligible accounts independently managed from quote through binding.
- Additional commission opportunities for eligible account rounding and cross-selling.
- Agency growth and performance bonus opportunities based on agency results and individual contribution.
- Target total earning opportunity of approximately $65,000-$75,000+ for a successful team member who develops into the broader responsibilities of the role.
- Approximately 33-36 hours per week, scheduled within core business hours.
- Ongoing commercial insurance training and professional development.
- Additional continuing education, industry certifications, and professional designations may be sponsored by Ascent for employees who demonstrate strong performance, commitment, and long-term growth potential.
As responsibilities grow into true Account Manager-level ownership, compensation and title will be reviewed accordingly.
This Could Be a Great Fit If You...
- Enjoy the technical side of commercial insurance but also genuinely like people.
- Get satisfaction from solving problems and figuring things out.
- Are comfortable communicating with clients and team members by phone and email.
- Take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Naturally follow things through to completion.
- Notice opportunities and are willing to act on them.
- Embrace technology and change rather than fight it.
- Want to continue developing your commercial insurance knowledge.
- Want your contributions to matter in a growing agency.
This Isn't the Right Fit If You...
- Need constant supervision after you've been trained.
- Are uncomfortable learning new technology or ignore established processes.
- Want a strictly transactional service position with no interest in developing broader account responsibilities.
- Avoid client or prospect conversations.
- Need someone else to continually remind you about outstanding work.
- Expect title or compensation growth based on tenure or likability rather than demonstrated performance and contribution.
- Are looking for a place to clock in and coast.
Why Ascent?
At Ascent, you won't spend every day doing the exact same thing.
You'll work directly with clients, producers, underwriters, and agency leadership while gaining exposure to marketing, underwriting, renewals, coverage analysis, business development, risk management, and agency operations.
We're small enough that your ideas and contributions are noticed, but growing enough that there is real opportunity to expand your role.
For team members who demonstrate the ability, initiative, and commitment to grow, we're willing to invest in that growth through training, continuing education, industry certifications, and professional designations.
If you're a licensed commercial insurance professional who has mastered the basics and is ready for the opportunity to become more, we'd like to meet you.
