Position Summary:
**Travel required to Oahu
Care Hawaii is a behavioral health care organization seeking a compassionate and
dependable Crisis Team Leader to support the daily functions of CAREs provision of
services. CARE Hawaii, Inc. contracts with multiple stakeholders to provide an array of
services. The Case Manager is a member of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for
organizing, coordinating, and monitoring all contract operations under the direction of
the Director.
The primary duty of the Crisis Team Lead is to provide general supervision, oversight,
programming, and coordination, in conjunction with the Site Director, Medical Director,
Nursing Director, and QMHP/Clinical Director, of the Crisis Mobile Outreach (CMO) and
Crisis Support Management (CSM) team(s), which provide crisis mental health services
to youth and adults in the community. The Crisis Team Lead has advanced training in a
mental health profession (i.e., nursing, social work, psychology) and clinical skills and
preferred supervisory experience to lead the team.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited college or
university in one or more of the following fields:
- Social Work, Nursing
- Counseling
- Psychology
- Psychosocial Rehabilitation
- Sociology
- Human Development
- Other closely related fields, as approved in writing by the AMHD Chief or
designee, providing the individual has completed: 12 credit hours of post high
school coursework in the areas of psychology, counseling, social work, or other
areas of human development, and one (1) year of experience providing direct
services to individuals with mental illness or other behavioral health issues.
Individuals may also qualify by having one (1) or more of the following credentials: A
Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) or any one of the following
credentials in the State of Hawaii, along with 12 credit hours of post high school
coursework in the areas of psychology, counseling, social work, or other areas of
human development, and one (1) year of experience providing direct services to
individuals with mental illness or other behavioral health issues.
- A Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
- A Certified Peer Specialist (HCPS)
- A Registered Nurse (RN)
- A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
All post high school coursework must have been completed at, and the degree
issued by a nationally accredited institution.
For degrees issued outside of the United States, the issuing institution must meet
similar accrediting standards or be recognized within the United States as having
equal standing.
Minimum Experience: Strong clinical skills and experience demonstrating
competence in problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and clinical
competencies in providing education and training to staff members.
Experience may also include identification and evaluation of the consumer’s
problems and needs, the development of a service or treatment plan, the initiation
and implementation of the treatment plan, monitoring of services and
evaluation/assessment of the consumer’s progress. Applicable experience will be
included regardless of a paid or unpaid experience.

Required Skills: Skills and Experience to assess and provide stabilization and support for
family members and individuals at risk for suicide/homicide or experiencing other crisis
situations. Must have the ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to
effectively work with all levels of personnel and with other agencies. Mature, reliable,
and responsible. Must have clear, concise, and empathetic communication skills. Must
be culturally sensitive and aware. Must know the basics of ethics, HIPPA standards, and
problem solving. Must display sound judgment, a good work ethic, and personal
integrity. Must have knowledge of community resources, outreach, mental/behavioral
health issues in Hawaii. Ability to relate effectively to individuals with a mental illness,
substance abuse issues, co-occurring disorders, and homelessness.
Technical Skills: Basic use of a computer and/or tablet, Microsoft Word Suite, fax
machine, telephone, and text and chat features on the telephone or computer.
Working Environment: Community-based services; provides crisis services in the
community wherever the individual is located; may require some travel, over-time,
weekend, and holiday work, working with other Federal and/or State accounting
bodies, noise level in the environment may be moderate to noisy. Exposure to infectious
diseases is a relatively common risk.
Special Demands: Ability to respond effectively to the varied needs and demands of
multidisciplinary team members. Have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and
continuous support and services. Harnesses the active involvement of team members in
taking ownership of aspects of program development, including operations, record
keeping, staff/client education, treatment planning, and quality assurance activities.
Must be able to complete and submit al work within contract specified time
requirements.
Consumers Served: CARE Hawaii will provide services to any individual who meets the
criteria of the program. The treatment of individuals should reflect an understanding of
the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each client.
Physical Demands:
1. Sit for long periods of time, use of proper ergonomics, the ability to focus on a
computer and/or tablet for long periods of time.
2. Ability to assist with the high volume of calls; ability to communicate effectively
both verbally and in writing is essential.
3. Ability to follow instructions and motivation to refer to various rehabilitative
groups. Frequent reading of printed materials is essential.
4. Listening skills necessary to effectively respond to consumers.
5. Ability to identify and support daily interactions and to deal with each situation in
a stress-free manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Fills in as a crisis therapist when necessary
Directs the day-to-day operations of the team, including scheduling, staff
meetings, and planning and coordination of crisis stabilization/clinical
programming activities.
In coordination with the Site Director and/or QMHP reviews and updates clinical
policies and procedures on a regular basis.
Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates client referral and stabilization process.
Assigns the most appropriate staff for 24-hour coverage; provides supervision;
and reviews individual cases with staff, as needed.
Participates in staff recruitment, interviewing, hiring, work assignments,
orientation, and training, as well as performance supervision according to
agency guidelines.
Adheres to the program budget. Reviews and approves non-billables
Supervises records management and carries out and documents Quality
Assurance activities.
Fosters good relationships among health care providers; maintains dialogue in
interaction with other professionals to identify and resolve existing problems, as
well as to explore new avenues for service; participates/contributes to meetings
pertinent to area of responsibility; promotes quality client care through a spirit of
cooperation with other staff.
Is available for direct clinical treatment as needed and as after-hours back-up.
Participates in strategic planning, identifying, and aligning with growth
opportunities through analyzing trends in client mix and proposing appropriate
changes in operations to accommodate client/staff needs; evaluates
competitive position and proposes appropriate market to service area.
Is available for crisis intervention, staff supervision and consultation, as needed.
Demonstrates self-evaluation skills and takes responsibility for and appropriate
action to remedy or reduce limitation; independently seeks formal and informal
professional development activities to ensure the highest standard of knowledge
and skill.
Ensures that authorizations and continuations are available for the various
services that the client is receiving by obtaining and tracking authorizations in
coordination with the billing department and AMHD Utilization Management or
the Hawaii Cares Line.
Completes/assists with preparation and completion of program audits.
Willingly performs other duties/responsibilities as requested

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
