JOB FUNCTION:
Provide professional engineering assistance to the Department Department encompassing Substations, Telcom, Networking, Metering, Dispatch and Operations related transmission and distribution functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop acceptance testing procedures for new equipment such as substation switchgear, transformers, regulators, relays, capacitors, breakers and switches, battery energy storage or other renewable energy systems. etc.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of electrical equipment problems including failures, and related power outage analysis;
- conduct power outage analysis;
- Develop and review work methods and practices for technical including metering and communications/electronics/networking.
- Computes and analyzes reliability statistics and prepares reports. Recommends system upgrades and changes to operations based upon the reliability data analysis.
- Develops and conducts technical training of Department employees. Fills the role of the Assistant Superintendent on a standby basis and in emergency situations.
- Helps with development of a modern comprehensive system for tracking Technical maintenance program integrating Diagnostic Analysis tools and software.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of principles of electrical engineering in the field of power systems analysis and methods of economic analysis.
- Electrical engineering degree or equivalent experience with emphasis on electrical power systems.
- Hawaii Professional Engineer’s license or equivalent is desirable.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of T&D power systems, specifically in engineering, operation and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and mainframe systems and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, etc.
- Working knowledge of policies and procedures contained in documents such as Company/Union Agreement, accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, Corporate Code of Conduct, etc.
Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated in-depth analytical and administrative skills required for such tasks as researching, designing, developing, analyzing, selecting and monitoring projects; carrying out Company/Department policies and procedures; and managing projects.
- Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; and the willingness and ability to train others.
- Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
- Ability to work on various projects simultaneously.
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
