Full Job Description

Description

Under general supervision, delivers meals to homebound clients on a daily basis and visits with clients to provide information, assurance and/or comfort. Performs community outreach work and provides information to the citizens of Hobbs about the services and activities available to them through the Senior Center.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Delivers meals to homebound clients daily in a safe and efficient manner, following all local traffic laws, ordinances, and prescribed uses of City vehicles at all times when driving City vehicles for any task.
Actively seeks out and participates in community events to distribute information about our services.
Gathers and maintains resources for the other social service agencies that provides assistance to senior citizens.
Assist in performing client assessments and reassessments on home delivered, congregate, and recreation members.
Assist in data entry of those assessments / reassessments into the state data base, as mandated by the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department.
Assist with Transportation of members as needed.
Makes periodic “rounds” through the senior center, to know who is in the senior center and which activities are occurring.
Establishes and maintains contact with families of program participants where applicable.
Answers the phones and receives walk in citizens providing information requested or directs them to the appropriate organization or person.
Welcomes first time clients, gives tours of the Hobbs Senior Center, and acquaints new clients with both current senior center clients, and activities at the Senior Center.
Becomes familiar with clients visiting the senior center, inquires both about which activities they enjoy and new activities the senior center could offer.
Prepares monthly reports for the supervisor on services provided as required.
Assists in sending out approximately 1,500 newsletters bi-monthly to current clients.
Provides follow up contact with clients that have not entered the center for a period of time to ascertain whether they wish to continue membership with the senior center.
Provides assistance to congregate meal participants by serving/bringing meals to those that are unable to carry their food trays due to physical restrictions.
Acts as a backup to the Luncheon Registrar and Kitchen Aide.
Provides assistance to clients by putting them in contact with services such as medical facilities and non-profit assistance programs.
Makes efficient use of time, daily; assists and participates in planning, programming, supervising, and evaluation of new senior center activities.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May serve on various employee committees or meetings, as required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred with 1 year of previous clerical experience required.
Bilingual preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Older Americans staff and the general public.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

Ability to obtain WellSky database certification within sixty (60) days of hire
Ability to obtain Safe Food Handler’s certification within sixty (60) days of hire
Ability to obtain NM HIPPA/Confidentiality Certification within sixty (60) days of hire
Valid state issued driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and use hands and arms to push a wheeled cart in a level indoor setting. The employee will make frequent entry and exit from a motor vehicle while delivering meals. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, talk or hear.
The employee must daily lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet.

The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.
CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).
PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.
Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).
Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.
Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service
13 Paid Holidays.
Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
Military Leave - (120 hours per year for general, 183.75 per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
