About The Company

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Founded in 1989 as a single-site club in Hobe Sound serving 165 children, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Martin County (BGCMC) has grown to operate four clubs in Martin County reaching thousands of children and families per year. BGCMC’s vision is to provide a world-class enrichment experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters through its doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Operating with an $8M budget, BGCMC’s programming reached 6,663 young people through programming focused on three core pillars: academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship. In each of these areas, BGCM’s programs show promising results thanks in part to its dedicated staff and innovative model using Americorps volunteers to serve as academic enrichment coaches. BGCMC also provided over 100K free and nutritious meals and over $500K in scholarships to the young people it serves.

Program

As an AmeriCorps member, you will not only make an impact in the lives of students and the community you serve, but you will also grow as an individual. During your 12 months of service, you will gain valuable training and professional development experience that will prepare you for a career in any field.

Site Location & Schedule

4 Martin County Club locations (Hobe Sound, Greater East Stuart, Port Salerno & Indiantown)

Full-time position

M-F from 10am to 7pm: occasional evenings and weekends required.

Purpose

The Elementary Literacy AmeriCorps program will deliver one-on-one and small group lessons centered around English language Arts and literacy. Members will work with teachers to monitor literacy gains, coordinate literacy sessions during the school day assign literacy enrichment activities and provide parents with feedback on their child’s progress.

Must be willing to commute to all Club and school site locations daily.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

AmeriCorps Members will deliver English Language Arts support to Club members using IXL Learning, and other ELA interventions as assigned, in small groups. Members will work with Teachers to monitor literacy gains, coordinate literacy sessions and assign literacy enrichment activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Implement the day-to-day delivery of the AmeriCorps program following all requirements.

· In collaboration with Club Teachers, deliver English Language Art support using IXL Learning, and other ELA interventions as assigned, to members K-5th by delivering small group sessions.

· Ensure the confidentiality of the Club members/students, school employees, and AmeriCorps members.

· Maintain positive communication with Team Leader, Club staff, and school partners as assigned.

· Create an inclusive and supportive environment that actively engages youth in all program activities, encouraging consistent participation and attendance.

· Serve as a positive role model by exemplifying professionalism, strong work ethic, and respect for others. Mentor both youth members and peers by setting a high standard of conduct.

· Maintain accurate records, including lesson plans, attendance sheets, incident reports, and any other required documentation in a timely and organized manner. Provide regular reports on program effectiveness to supervisor.

· Assist in tracking and analyzing program effectiveness and share insights with the team to help refine and improve strategies.

· Collaborate with Team Leader to plan and lead literacy focused events and family engagement activities such as family literacy nights reading challenges, book distribution events, guest readers, and celebrations of student success.

· Provide constant, active supervision and ensure the safety of youth by following established policies and protocols, with the ability to manage challenging situations effectively. Interact with all members and provide motivation and encouragement.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized program area by adhering to daily cleaning and maintenance procedures. Ensure the environment remains conducive to learning and development.

· Discipline members fairly, consistently, and only according to established policies and procedures.

· Actively participate in ongoing training sessions and professional development activities to enhance skills, knowledge, and overall program delivery. Complete all required trainings.

· May be required to help out in multiple areas as needed, including working from additional sites, contributing to the overall success of the team and mission.

· Additional duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Maintain close daily contact with supervisor, AmeriCorps Member Experience Specialist, Teachers, Team Lead, and Club/school site location staff as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Possess a high school degree or be working towards completing.

· Be above the age of 17.

· Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident.

· Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.

· Agree and pass a criminal background and drug check.

· CPR and First Aid Certifications (or obtain within the first three months of employment).
