Full Job Description

Chesapeake Care Resources is looking for a compassionate and committed Direct Support Professional to join our healthcare team in furthering our mission to deliver quality services that enrich and enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. The DSP will deliver essential care to individuals with disabilities at a 1:4 ratio. This position requires a solid understanding of patient care procedures, strong communication abilities, and a genuine passion for positively impacting the lives of those we serve. The ideal candidate will have prior experience providing direct care to individuals in a residential setting.

Responsibilities:

Participate in the Person Centered Plan (PCP) process including development, implementation and documentation of outcomes, as requested.
Assist in providing habilitative services to individuals as recommended in the Person Centered Plan, (PCP).
Assist to provide activities/therapies as suggested/prescribed by therapeutic consultants.
Encourage social interaction by planning and organizing appropriate social outings and leisure activities for individuals. Assist with related paperwork and requests for monetary funds as needed.
Assist individuals in developing and maintaining self help skills including but not limited to: Toileting→ transfers to and from toilet, clothing removal, hygiene related to toileting, assistance with urinals, maintaining artificial toileting devices (leg bags, colostomies), etc.
Maintain personal hygiene of individuals→ bathing and related transfers, dental hygiene, hair and nail care, shaving, makeup, attending to personal needs of females during menstruation, etc.
Assist with dressing and undressing of individuals.
Feed individuals who are unable to feed themselves as well as assisting and closely monitoring all individuals during snacks, drinks and meals following guidelines presented in Choking Prevention and Dysphagia Diets Training- including appropriate food texture and liquid thickness.
Assist in the general operation and maintenance of the unit inside and outside: Maintain cleanliness of residence, including but not limited to→ mopping, vacuuming and dusting; sort items to proper places and putting laundry away; clean bathrooms; wash windows and other items as needed; clean refrigerator weekly and clean up cigarette butts outside the residence when necessary.
Maintain cleanliness of individual’s equipment: wheelchairs, trays, assistive technology devices; puzzles, balls, manipulative devices, etc. Maintain clothing and linens.
Mealtime duties including preparation of meals serving food in a manner appropriate to each individual, cleaning up after meals and insuring safe storage of food.
Make constructive use of time while on duty.
CMT/DSP: consistently follows policies and procedures as taught in MTTP curriculum by accurately dispensing medications following “6 Rights” protocol.
Accurately document in iCare Manager as directed or on paper during emergency situations and/or provide relevant information when and where appropriate and in a timely fashion.
Transport individuals and/or attend activities and appointments as assigned.
Participate in staff meetings and on-going staff trainings as required by agency. Maintain appropriate certifications including but not limited to: FA, CPR, Medication Administration, Certified Nursing Assistant.
Promote and support agency philosophy and objectives to staff and public. Assure adherence to center policies and standards, as well as applicable licensing/regulatory requirements.
Engage in a positive professional manner with staff, with health care professionals, and in all representation of CCR.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
CMT (Certified medical Technician), preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant, preferred.
Evidence of interest in, and capacity to work with Developmentally Disabled Individuals.
Ability to perform essential functions: stand/sit/walk/twist/turn/stoop/bend/squat and kneel as required.
Ability to: lift 60 pounds/120 pounds with assistance; pivot and transfer individuals; use lifting device (Hoyer/ARJO) with sling to transfer individual up to 200 pounds; push individuals in wheelchairs on flat surfaces and up and down ramps in program areas and throughout the community.

$13,000+ Annual Sleep Shift Bonus
$1,000 Sign-on Bonus ($400 paid after 6 months and $600 paid after 12 months of employment based upon satisfactory reviews)

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
