Position: High School Dance Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director
Employment Status: Part time
Qualifications:

State of Ohio Teaching license/certificate (preferred-not required).

Current BCI/FBI, Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) on file. (Including all required certifications to keep PAP valid.)

Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-01 of the Ohio Administrative Code.

Ability to maintain confidential information.

Demonstrated coaching and administrative capabilities.
-
Coaching experience preferred.

Advanced knowledge of assigned sport with emphasis on fundamentals.

Advanced knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
-
Ability to identify player strengths/deficiencies and provide quality feedback towards individual and team improvement.
-
Organizational and problem solving skills.
-
Ability to communicate ideas and directives effectively (orally and in writing).
-
Ability to relate with and inspire young athletes.
-
Ability to work effectively with all members of the school and athletic community.
-
Willingness to invest the necessary time to develop a successful program.

Ability to make minor repairs on equipment.

Experience working with a culturally diverse student population preferred.

General Description:
Helps to prepare team to competitively participate in interscholastic athletics as positive representatives of the Springfield Local Schools community.
Assist the Head Coach to create and maintain a culture that is positive, supportive and rooted in the spirit of education based athletic
Essential Functions:
1. Encourage students to participate in the program
2. Equally prioritize the athletic and character development of all team members.
3. Follow proper budget and purchase order procedures.
4. Comply with all fundraising guidelines and procedures.
5. Account for the condition, inventory, labeling, distribution, procurement and storage of all equipment.
6. Account for the assignment of lockers and the condition of the locker room, if applicable.
7. Assist Athletic Office in the collection of fees and issuing fines for school-issued uniforms, equipment, or other property not turned in at the conclusion of the season.
8. Instruct and assist players in the care and prevention of injuries.
9. Adhere to rules and regulations set by OHSAA and Springfield Board of Education policies and administrative guidelines.
10. Instruct players in the proper use of the body-building equipment, training, etc.
11. Report maintenance needs to the Athletic Director.
12. Schedule, plan and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages in coordination with the Athletic Office.
13. Shall be accountable for player behavior during practice sessions, meetings, locker room activities, bus trips, and other activities under the auspices of the program.
14. Develop and enforce training rules working collaboratively with the Athletic Trainer.
15. Organize filming of all games; review and evaluate all game films.
16. Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling opponents.
17. Contribute to public relations by providing information to local media outlets in consultation with the Athletic Director.
18. Aid in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
19. Supervise, direct and develop growth of assistant coaches.
20. Correspond with college and university personnel to assist players in acquiring athletic scholarships.
21. Collaborate and communicate with feeder programs.
22. Monitor weekly eligibility with the assistance of the Athletic Office.
23. Participate in the Awards Program by distributing awards to players.
24. Attend and participate in Athletic Booster Club meetings when possible.
25. Encourage athletes to participate in other sports or weight and strength conditioning programs during the off season.
26. Promotes all school activities and encourages students to participate in a variety of activities; supports and promotes all sports in the athletic program.
27. Assist the Athletic Office in ensuring players meet necessary requirements pertaining to insurance, eligibility and athletic waivers.
28. Seek opportunities to remain current and develop as a coach.
29. Confirm transportation arrangements with the Athletic Department and Transportation Department.
30. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
31. Helps maintain safety and security in the building.
32. Accesses, responds and communicates using the district issued email account regularly.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (ie: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)
4. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
5. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Additional Working Conditions:
1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
4. Occasional lifting and carrying of 15-30 pounds.
