Full Job Description

Senior Workday Technical Configurator - Benefits & Leave of Absence (LOA)

Remote (U.S.) | 6+ Month Contract | Potential Extension and/or Conversion

A leading national insurance and financial services organization is seeking an experienced Senior Workday Technical Configurator with deep expertise in Workday Benefits and Leave of Absence (LOA) configuration.

This is a highly technical HRIS configuration role focused on building, configuring, enhancing, and supporting Workday functionality. This is NOT an HR Generalist, Benefits Administrator, Leave Administrator, HR Operations, Employee Relations, or Recruiting position.

Candidates must have recent hands-on Workday configuration experience within both Benefits and Absence Management/LOA modules. Applicants whose backgrounds are primarily focused on HR administration, benefits administration, leave processing, payroll processing, or general HR support without significant Workday configuration responsibilities will not be considered.

This individual will partner with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and business stakeholders to optimize Workday functionality, support Open Enrollment initiatives, enhance business processes, and deliver scalable system solutions following a recent enterprise-wide Workday implementation.

Important Candidate Requirements

To be considered, candidates must have:

Recent hands-on Workday Benefits configuration experience
Recent hands-on Workday Leave of Absence (LOA) / Absence Management configuration experience
Experience configuring business processes, eligibility rules, life events, leave types, and accruals
Experience troubleshooting and supporting Workday production environments
Experience supporting Open Enrollment from a Workday configuration perspective

Please apply only if your experience includes direct Workday configuration. Candidates whose experience is primarily HR, Benefits Administration, Leave Administration, Recruiting, Payroll, or HR Operations without Workday configuration expertise are not a fit for this opportunity.

What You'll Be Doing

Configure, maintain, and optimize Workday Benefits and Absence Management modules
Support Open Enrollment activities, configuration updates, testing, and production support
Configure eligibility rules, benefit plans, life events, leave plans, leave types, and accrual policies
Design and maintain business processes, notifications, approvals, condition rules, and security configurations
Partner with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and business leaders to translate requirements into scalable Workday solutions
Build and maintain reports, calculated fields, dashboards, and analytics
Troubleshoot and resolve Workday configuration issues and system defects
Support integrations, enhancement requests, release management, and testing activities
Collaborate with third-party vendors, benefits carriers, and leave administrators
Recommend process improvements and system enhancements that improve efficiency and user experience

Required Qualifications

4+ years of hands-on Workday configuration experience
3+ years of hands-on Workday Benefits configuration experience
3+ years of hands-on Workday Absence Management / Leave of Absence (LOA) configuration experience
Demonstrated experience configuring benefit plans, eligibility rules, life events, leave types, accruals, notifications, approvals, and business processes
Experience supporting Open Enrollment from a Workday configuration perspective
Strong understanding of Workday business processes, reporting, calculated fields, and security
Experience troubleshooting production issues and implementing system enhancements
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into Workday configurations
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical configuration decisions to business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

Workday Pro Certification in Benefits and/or Absence Management
Experience with EIBs, calculated fields, integrations, and tenant management
Experience working with benefits carriers and third-party leave administrators
Experience supporting newly implemented or rapidly evolving Workday environments
Experience with Workday release testing and change management
