**Currently hiring a part-time sales associate - 16-20 hrs/week**
Position Summary: Ensure smooth, professional, and efficient store operations; and always striving to increase income for the store. Take an active role in problem-solving and implementing solutions as needed for facility, grounds, and equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Respectful, welcoming and friendly customer service.
- Complete training on in-store operations with the assistance from the Manager and Assistant Manager.
- Abide by the confidentiality required by SPHH
- Receiving, sorting, stocking, storing, selling of; donated clothing, furniture and household goods.
- Documenting the donations of goods and services daily in the In-Kind donation log.
- Maintaining clean work areas and safe working conditions within the Thrift Store building, grounds and storage area (Conex).
- Being active in the regular cleaning schedule and process for routine disposal of donated items. This includes taking trash to the dumpster, taking bags to the store truck, breaking down boxes and helping donors to unload their donations into Homer Thrift.
- Storing seasonal materials and keeping the sorting area safe.
- Dressing for inclement weather when working outside.
- Test electrical equipment upon donation to determine if sellable
- Assisting with Opening and Closing procedures, including counting money.
- Must be able to unload the donation bin and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings as needed.
- Assists with other work responsibilities as assigned by the Thrift Store Manager, Assistant Manager and/or Executive Director.
Necessary Skills and Experience:
- Must report for work at scheduled time, ready to perform work functions, and remain on task while completing entire scheduled shift.
- Flexibility with hours and workdays (some weekends required, expanded summertime hours)
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Commitment to contributing toward a positive work environment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with people of all backgrounds.
- Ability to model non-violent behavior.
- Keep abreast of new and innovate merchandising and display ideas.
- Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful.
Preferred:
- Knowledge and/or experience in retail.
- Knowledge and/or experience with cash registers and credit card machines.

Working Conditions: Periodic exposure to situations where individuals may be a danger to themselves or others. Exposure to cigarette smoke, bodily fluids, spills, chemicals and cleaning agents, broken glass, etc. Exposure to outdoor elements including snow, ice and rain. Exposure to communicable diseases.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk, or hear; use hands, and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands, and arms
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and carry it up and down the stairs.
- Ability to be on feet most of the workday except for breaks and lunch.
Machines and Equipment Used: Standard office and retail sales equipment and household cleaning tools (vacuum cleaners, etc.).
Relationship With Other People: Cooperates and interacts with all SPHH’s staff and volunteers and community service agencies with dignity and tact. Will not engage in intimate relationships with a person seeking or receiving services from SPHH. Models nonviolent behavior.
