Full Job Description

Job Summary

Under supervision, compiles and maintains records of safety & training, performing a wide variety of clerical duties and utilizing knowledge of systems or procedures. Maintains computer-based database system of accidents, incidents, insurance claims and litigation. Works closely with the Director of Safety and department managers, this position supports the agency's commitment to providing a safe work environment through proactive employee education, accurate recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of safety and training programs. The position also provides clerical and administrative support for Risk Management activities, assists with accident and incident documentation, prepares reports, tracks required certifications and training completion, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

· Copies data and compiles records and reports; tabulates and posts data in appropriate reporting documents.

· Design, develop and implement the instructional support programs for BJCTA operations, maintenance and administrative personnel.

· Conducts research to establish needs and develop applicable programs, training handbooks, textbooks, training aids, supplemental materials for supervisor development, training upgrades and employee development.

· Initiate annual training rollout for all training activities.

· Coordinate and implement workshops and seminars in partnership with National Transit Institute, Transit Safety Institute, and other training partners as applicable.

· Prepare and submit appropriate training activity reports as required.

· Develop and prepare trending models to identify targeted training needs to safeguard employees and property.

· Review Supervisor’s First Report of Injury and gather all necessary information as needed

· Report all incidents, accidents and WCC claims to the insurance company Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.

· Must understand and follow all safety rules.

· Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisors.

· Conduct regular safety inspections of transit facilities, vehicles, equipment, and operational practices.

· Perform field observations, ride checks, and operator safety evaluations.

· Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend corrective actions.

· Monitor compliance with BJCTA policies, FTA, DOT, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.

· Assist with preparation for internal and external safety audits and inspections.

· Must attend mandatory meetings, as required.

· Assist with emergency response planning and drills.

· Support investigations and documentation related to emergency events.

· Coordinate with local emergency agencies when appropriate.

· Assist in maintaining crisis response procedures.

· Build positive working relationships with employees and union representatives.

· Coach employees on safe work practices and expectations.

· Participate in corrective counseling related to safety violations.

· Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to design effective training programs, good organizational and communications skills, ability to instruct, consult, and evaluate people with varied educational backgrounds. Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, DOT medical card and drug screen. Minimum – 21 years.

Education & Experience:

Associate degree with significant related experience .
Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in safety, training, transportation operations, risk management, or a closely related field.
Experience developing and delivering instructor-led training.
Experience presenting to groups of varying sizes.
Transit, transportation, manufacturing, public sector, commercial transportation, or a unionized environment preferred.
Experience conducting accident investigations and safety training preferred.
