Structural Fitter Foreman Job Description
Summary of Duties:
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in fabricating and installing metal structural parts, such as bulkheads, plates, and frames in ships.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- Assigns workers to specific duties.
- Inspects installations, such as decks and engine foundations, for conformance with specifications.
- May supervise workers engaged in repairing structural parts of ships.
- May direct moving and launching of ships.
- Inspects work in process and completed work to ensure conformance to specifications and drawings.
- Support the Ship Fitters to determine the work sequence as well as the tools needed and resources necessary for job performance.
- Arrange the pressure testing as specified in the drawings and/or in the pressure test instructions.
- Supervises and/or coordinates activities of other assigned craft workers and with other supervisors.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders as needed for area of supervision.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedules.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems.
- Maintains time records.
- Must be able to perform all duties of a Ship Fitter.
Requirements:
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Completion of apprenticeship program and appropriate journeyman experience.
- Knowledge of ABS, Coast Guard and OSHA safety regulations.
- Five to ten year’s industry experience.
- Performs other duties as described under Supervisor
Physical Requirements:
- See well (either naturally or with correction).
- Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection and others as required.
