Overview
SHA Ops is seeking an exceptionally driven, analytical, and adaptable Project Operations Associate to work directly with our executive leadership team across a wide range of operational, strategic, and project-related initiatives.
This is not a narrowly defined position. We are looking for someone who wants exposure to multiple areas of a growing organization and is willing to step into whatever challenge or opportunity is most important to the business at the time.
The successful candidate will work hand-in-hand with members of SHA Ops' executive leadership team and may support project management, operations, data analysis, financial analysis, HSE, business development, client presentations, process improvement, technology implementation, logistics, and special projects.
We are less concerned with finding someone who already knows how to do everything than we are with finding someone who is highly intelligent, hungry to learn, resourceful, coachable, and capable of figuring things out quickly.
This position offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of how a growing project-management and operations business is run.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities will vary based on the needs of the organization and may include:
- Work directly with executive leadership on high-priority projects, analyses, presentations, and strategic initiatives.
- Analyze operational, project, financial, commercial, and HSE/safety data to identify trends, risks, recurring issues, opportunities, and actionable insights for leadership.
- Analyze safety performance data—including incidents, near misses, observations, leading and lagging indicators, contractor performance, and other HSE metrics—to identify trends and support management decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Take complex or unstructured information and turn it into clear analyses, recommendations, presentations, dashboards, and action plans.
- Build and maintain advanced Excel models, trackers, analyses, and management reporting tools.
- Develop high-quality PowerPoint presentations for executive leadership, clients, project teams, and business-development opportunities.
- Assist leadership in preparing client presentations, proposals, executive summaries, project updates, and internal decision-making materials.
- Support project managers and operational teams with scheduling, cost tracking, forecasting, logistics, reporting, documentation, and project controls.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Power BI dashboards and other business-intelligence tools for project performance, cost, schedule, operational, and HSE/safety reporting.
- Help organize and improve SharePoint sites, document-management systems, workflows, reporting processes, and internal knowledge-management tools.
- Evaluate and implement AI and automation tools that can improve productivity, reporting, analysis, document creation, and internal processes.
- Research unfamiliar topics, industries, technologies, vendors, or operational problems and quickly develop a working understanding sufficient to support leadership decisions.
- Assist with financial and commercial analysis, including project economics, pricing, cost analysis, budgets, forecasts, and business cases.
- Support business-development activities, including market research, opportunity analysis, proposal development, and preparation for client meetings.
- Work across project management, engineering, HSE, logistics, finance, business development, and operations as business needs require.
- Identify inefficiencies and opportunities to improve processes rather than simply executing existing processes.
- Take ownership of special projects from initial problem definition through analysis, recommendation, and implementation.
- Follow up across teams to ensure commitments, action items, and executive priorities are driven through completion.
- Travel to client offices, project locations, contractor facilities, or offshore locations when beneficial to the assignment.
Qualifications
- The most important attributes for this position are drive, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and judgment.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has an exceptionally strong work ethic and a desire to take on increasing responsibility.
- Learns new concepts, industries, software, and processes quickly.
- Is comfortable being given an ambiguous problem without a predefined solution.
- Can break complex problems into manageable pieces and determine what information is actually important.
- Thinks analytically while also understanding the broader strategic implications of the work.
- Is naturally curious and willing to ask questions, research independently, and develop solutions.
- Has strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with both executives and project personnel.
- Is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change.
- Is willing to work outside of a traditional job description when the business needs it.
- Takes ownership of assignments and follows them through to completion.
- Is receptive to feedback and actively wants to be coached and developed by experienced leadership.
- Has the confidence to offer ideas and challenge assumptions respectfully while remaining willing to learn from others.
- Wants to build a career rather than simply perform a defined set of tasks.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency preferred:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Data analysis and visualization
- Research and information synthesis
Experience with the following is a plus but not required:
- Power BI
- AI productivity and analytical tools
- Microsoft Power Automate
- Project-management and scheduling software
- Financial modeling
- Database or data-querying tools
- HSE and operational reporting systems
Candidates are not expected to already be experts in every platform listed above. The ability and willingness to rapidly learn new technology is more important than checking every technical box.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Data Analytics, Management, or another analytical discipline preferred.
- 0–5 years of professional experience; exceptional recent graduates will be considered.
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create professional presentations and work effectively with data.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working directly with senior executives and interacting with clients.
- Willingness to work primarily in person and travel when required.
Growth Opportunity
This role is designed for someone who wants to learn quickly and take on significant responsibility early in their career.
The individual will receive direct exposure to SHA Ops' executive leadership team and gain experience across multiple functions of the organization rather than developing within a single silo. As the individual demonstrates capability, judgment, and leadership, we expect the scope and responsibility of the position to grow substantially.
There is no predetermined career path for this role. Depending on the individual's strengths and interests, the position could ultimately develop toward project management, operations leadership, strategy, business development, commercial management, analytics, or another leadership function within SHA Ops.
What Success Looks Like
A successful person in this role becomes someone leadership can trust with difficult and ambiguous problems.
When given an unfamiliar assignment, they learn what they need to know, identify the right questions, analyze the available information, seek guidance when appropriate, develop a solution, and drive the assignment through completion.
We are looking for someone who sees being asked to take on something new as an opportunity rather than an inconvenience.
