Full Job Description

Welding Engineer Robotic Welding Systems

A leading North American manufacturer of robotic and automated welding systems for structural steel and heavy fabrication is hiring a Welding Engineer to be the technical face of its technology in the field. If you have searched for roles such as welding engineering technologist, robotic welding specialist, weld process engineer, or field welding engineer, this customer-facing position may be your next move.

Working from a U.S. home base, you will own everything that happens after a robotic welding cell is commissioned — training, weld-quality diagnostics, and continuous improvement — turning newly installed cells into reliable, high-throughput production assets. This is a hands-on field role with near-total autonomy, built for someone who does their best work in front of customers, not behind a CAD station.

Responsibilities:

Deliver advanced post-commissioning training in operation, programming, parameter optimization, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting so customers run their cells independently
Diagnose and resolve weld-quality issues on-site, isolating root cause and adjusting parameters, procedures, and welding databases to restore quality and throughput
Build, optimize, and maintain welding databases and welding procedures tuned to each customer's parts mix and quality requirements
Provide responsive remote and on-site technical support, owning issues through to resolution
Create and maintain training materials and technical documentation kept current with product and process changes
Support Sales during technical reviews and assist commissioning and startup of new robotic welding cells, coordinating across Sales, Engineering, Commissioning, and Service teams

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years hands-on experience operating, programming, optimizing, and maintaining robotic or automated welding systems (manual-welding-only or inspection-only experience does not qualify)
Working knowledge of GMAW and FCAW welding processes applied to structural steel and heavy fabrication
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering Technology or a closely related field
Demonstrated experience delivering technical training or presentations to operators or customers in an industrial setting
Fluent English (spoken and written), sufficient to train customers live and author technical documentation and manuals
U.S. work authorization, residence within 1.5 hours of a regional airport, valid passport, and willingness to travel 40 to 50 percent across the U.S., Canada, and internationally

Strong assets: hands-on experience with FANUC robots (such as Arc Mate) and offline or auto-programming welding software; building or optimizing welding databases and procedures; production experience in heavy-fabrication segments such as railcars, trusses, trailers, containers, or heavy machinery; supporting commissioning of new robotic welding cells.

Key skills: robotic welding, FANUC Arc Mate, GMAW, FCAW, weld procedure development, welding databases, offline and auto-programming, weld-quality diagnostics, customer training, technical documentation.

What we offer:

Base salary up to 135,000 USD per year, plus per diem and full travel-expense coverage that meaningfully add to total take-home given the travel load
