Position Summary
The Loss Prevention Forensics Analyst is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and reporting operational and financial loss trends across the company through data analytics, exception reporting, and forensic review of transactional and operational data. This position provides actionable insights that help Operations leadership reduce shrink, improve inventory accuracy, strengthen internal controls, and protect company assets.
The analyst serves as the organization's subject matter expert in loss analytics, leveraging data from POS, inventory, fuel, labor, and financial systems to identify risk, quantify financial exposure, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions. This role is analytical in nature and does not conduct employee interviews, disciplinary investigations, or personnel-related inquiries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analytics & Loss Detection
- Analyze transactional, inventory, fuel, cash, and operational data to identify loss trends and risk indicators.
- Detect and monitor exceptions related to shrink, cash variances, inventory discrepancies, fuel losses, refund abuse, discount misuse, lottery exceptions, and other operational irregularities.
- Perform root cause analysis and quantify financial impact associated with identified trends and exceptions.
- Identify emerging risks and provide recommendations to reduce operational losses and improve profitability.
Reporting & Business Intelligence
- Develop and maintain automated exception reports, dashboards, and risk-based scorecards.
- Monitor key loss prevention and operational performance metrics across all locations.
- Prepare recurring reports and executive summaries for the Director of Operations and Operations Leadership Team.
- Present findings and recommendations that support data-driven decision making and operational improvements.
Operational Support
- Partner with Region Managers, Territory Managers, and Store Managers to identify loss drivers, operational control weaknesses, and emerging risk trends.
- Support operational audits, compliance reviews, and shrink reduction initiatives through analytical review and trend analysis.
- Measure the effectiveness of corrective action plans and loss prevention initiatives.
- Recommend process improvements that strengthen controls, improve compliance, and reduce operational loss.
Data & Systems Management
- Utilize business intelligence tools and company systems to analyze operational performance.
- Combine data from POS, inventory, fuel management, pricebook, labor, and financial systems to identify loss trends.
- Maintain reporting accuracy and data integrity across multiple systems and data sources.
- Assist in the development of new reporting tools, dashboards, and analytical capabilities.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred in:

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
- Three (3) or more years of experience in retail analytics, loss prevention analytics, business intelligence, internal audit, financial analysis, or convenience store operations.
- Experience in multi-unit retail environments preferred.
- Convenience store, fuel retail, grocery, or restaurant experience preferred.

Position Purpose Statement
The Loss Prevention Forensics Analyst serves as the company's expert in operational loss analytics and forensic reporting. The primary purpose of this role is to identify where losses are occurring, quantify the financial impact, determine probable root causes through data analysis, and provide actionable intelligence that enables Operations leadership to improve controls, reduce shrink, increase profitability, and strengthen operational execution across the organization.
