Full Job Description

Overview

Join our dedicated team as a Certified Peer Specialist and become a vital part of empowering individuals on their recovery journeys. In this role, you will leverage your lived experience with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and recovery to provide compassionate, peer-led support. Your energetic and motivational approach will help foster hope, resilience, and independence among clients from diverse backgrounds. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while working in a collaborative, supportive environment committed to holistic well-being.

Responsibilities

Helping persons make new friends and begin to build alternative social networks;
Promoting coping skills;
Facilitating use of natural resources/supports;
Enhancing recovery-oriented attributes such as hope and self-efficacy;
Assisting the person with tasks such as setting recovery goals, developing recovery action plans, and solving problems directly related to recovery, spare time, and improving one’s job skills;
Providing assistance with issues that arise in connection with collateral problems such as having a criminal justice record or coexisting physical or mental challenges;
Helping persons navigate the formal treatment system, advocating for their access and gaining admittance, as well as facilitating discharge planning, typically in collaboration with treatment staff;
Encouraging participation in mutual aid groups in the community;
Facilitating participation in educational opportunities;
Developing linkages to resources that address specialized needs, such as agencies providing services related to HIV infection or AIDS, mental health disorders, chronic and acute health problems, parenting young children, and problems stemming from involvement with the criminal justice system; and
Participating in the development of the treatment plan

Qualifications

Proven lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders, demonstrating personal recovery and resilience.
Certification as a Peer Specialist from an accredited program or agency.
Strong understanding of behavioral health principles, crisis intervention, and addiction counseling techniques.
Experience working with individuals experiencing co-occurring disorders and managing crises effectively.
Excellent client communication skills, including motivational interviewing and mentoring abilities.
Knowledge of harm reduction practices and social work principles to support client empowerment.
Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
