POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Director of Quality Assurance & Customer Experience, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading and actively participating in all quality assurance activities throughout the manufacturing operation. This is a hands-on working manager position that requires daily involvement in product inspections, dimensional verification, quality testing, root cause investigations, process audits, and continuous improvement initiatives while also supervising the Quality Assurance team.
The Quality Assurance Manager is expected to spend a significant portion of their time on the production floor working alongside Quality Assurance Technicians, Assembly personnel, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure products consistently meet Bowtech's standards for performance, reliability, safety, and craftsmanship.
This position serves as the company's quality leader and subject matter expert for product quality, manufacturing quality systems, inspection processes, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership abilities, exceptional attention to detail, technical manufacturing experience, and a deep understanding of compound bows, archery equipment, accessories, and their associated components.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Leadership and Working Management
- Lead the Quality Assurance department while actively performing quality inspections, testing, audits, and verification activities alongside Quality Assurance Technicians.
- Serve as the primary quality resource for Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Customer Service, and Product Development teams.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and develop Quality Assurance personnel.
- Establish daily inspection priorities and quality objectives based on production schedules and business needs.
- Monitor employee performance, productivity, quality output, and adherence to company procedures.
- Lead by example through active participation in quality inspections, investigations, testing activities, and process audits.
- Foster a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork throughout the organization.
- Communicate quality concerns, trends, and opportunities to leadership.
Product Inspection and Quality Verification
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of compound bows, accessories, components, replacement parts, and finished goods.
- Conduct dimensional inspections utilizing calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Verify compliance to engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, assembly procedures, and quality standards.
- Perform product testing and validation activities to ensure quality and performance requirements are met.
- Inspect bow components including risers, limbs, cams, axles, modules, strings, cables, pockets, accessories, and related assemblies.
- Review and approve product quality prior to shipment.
- Assist with inspection and validation of prototype products and new product introductions.
- Ensure inspection records and quality documentation are accurate and complete.
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions
- Lead investigations involving product defects, manufacturing issues, warranty concerns, supplier quality issues, and customer complaints.
- Conduct root cause analysis utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Develop, implement, and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Customer Service teams to resolve quality concerns.
- Monitor corrective action effectiveness and verify long-term resolution.
- Analyze quality trends and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Manufacturing Quality Systems
- Develop, implement, maintain, and improve quality procedures, inspection processes, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with company quality requirements and documented procedures.
- Conduct process audits and quality system audits throughout manufacturing operations.
- Monitor key quality performance indicators and communicate results to leadership.
- Maintain quality records, inspection reports, audit findings, and corrective action documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing operations.
- Assist with development and implementation of quality training programs.
Supplier Quality and Incoming Inspection
- Support supplier quality management activities and incoming inspection programs.
- Evaluate incoming materials and components for compliance with specifications.
- Investigate supplier quality concerns and coordinate corrective actions when necessary.
- Work with Supply Chain and Purchasing teams to improve supplier quality performance.
- Assist with supplier audits and qualification activities.
Warranty and Field Quality Analysis
- Analyze warranty claims, product returns, and customer feedback to identify quality trends.
- Collaborate with Customer Service and Warranty teams on product quality investigations.
- Participate in product failure analysis and field performance evaluations.
- Assist with implementation of product and process improvements based on field performance data.
- Monitor quality metrics related to warranty performance and customer satisfaction.
ERP and Reporting Responsibilities
- Utilize Dynamics D365 ERP to support quality processes, inventory transactions, non-conformance tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain quality dashboards, reports, and performance metrics.
- Provide regular reporting to leadership regarding quality performance and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate quality records and data integrity within company systems.
Safety and Workplace Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ensure employees follow all safety policies, procedures, and workplace requirements.
- Support workplace organization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and company guidelines.
CROSS-TRAINING AND BRAND SUPPORT
- Support quality assurance activities across all Bowtech brands and product categories.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Customer Service, Product Management, and Supply Chain teams.
- Support prototype development, new product launches, and manufacturing process implementation activities.
- Maintain working knowledge of current and future Bowtech products, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
- Participate in cross-functional improvement projects and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field.
- Experience leading quality systems within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience utilizing Dynamics D365 ERP software.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement training.
- Experience with dimensional inspection equipment and quality measurement systems.
- Experience within the archery, hunting, sporting goods, or outdoor products industry.
- Passion for archery, bowhunting, and the outdoor lifestyle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of five years of manufacturing quality assurance or quality control experience.
- Minimum of three years of leadership, supervisory, or quality management experience.
- Experience performing dimensional inspections and utilizing precision measuring equipment.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, inspection procedures, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly operations, and quality assurance methodologies.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems; Dynamics D365 experience strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of compound bows, bow componentry, archery accessories, replacement parts, and archery equipment.
- Passion for archery and/or bowhunting
- Ability to identify quality concerns involving risers, limbs, cams, strings, cables, accessories, and related archery components.
- Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time as business needs require.
