Full Job Description

Registered Vascular Sonographer (Some Travel Required)
Department: Vital Heart and Vein
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Locations:
Vital Heart and Vein-Humble

Estimated Hours: Monday – Friday (8a – 4:30p) Some Travel Required

POSITION SUMMARY

The Vascular Sonographer works under limited supervision to provide advanced technical skills in the performance of non-invasive tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Responsibilities include performing a full range of non-invasive vascular ultrasound tests to include Venous Insufficiency studies, Upper/Lower Arterial Duplex, Upper/Lower Venous Duplex, AV Fistula/Graft, Extracranial Carotid Duplex, Abdominal Aorta (AAA), Renal/Mesenteric Arterial Duplex and related duties in patient care.

The Vascular Sonographer must work in a manner that places emphasis on quality patient care and customer service. This position must work collaboratively with all clinic staff, fostering an environment which promotes excellent patient care, comfort and trust. This position must exemplify the core values of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates ultrasound equipment for data acquisition, documentation of images and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
Prepares a summary of technical findings for interpretation by vascular surgeon.
Provides preliminary technical interpretations to ordering physician(s).
Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
Practices safety measures in Environment of Care.
Assists the Technical Manager/Director with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation through standardized protocols.
Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times
Is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of vascular disease and new procedures, as they evolve.
Adheres to internal policies and reporting structure

Education & Experience:

Must meet one of the three following educational/experience requirements plus current BLS certification:

Satisfactory completion of a formal vascular technology training program (1-4 years) must be registry eligible with application for current year OR
Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a dedicated vascular lab and registry eligible with application for current year OR
Approximately two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years of experience in a dedicated vascular laboratory and registry eligible with application for current year.

Licensure:

Certified as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International or Vascular Sonography (VS) by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Vascular Registries are required

Physical Requirements:

Moderate physical effort may be required such as walking, performing CPR, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
Potential lifting over 50 lbs. with assistance.
Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch must be adequate to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication.
Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory input.
Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
