We are seeking an experienced Hospital Pharmacist – Pharmacy Informatics Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a clinical pharmacist who has strong hospital pharmacy experience and an interest in leveraging technology to improve medication-use processes, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency.
Job Description
As a Hospital Pharmacist – Pharmacy Informatics Specialist, you will use your clinical pharmacy expertise to support the optimization of pharmacy systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and medication management workflows. You will collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, clinical teams, and healthcare IT professionals to improve medication safety, enhance pharmacy operations, and support successful technology implementations within hospital environments.
This remote contract position will support healthcare organizations across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply hospital pharmacy expertise to analyze and optimize medication-use processes and clinical workflows.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, clinicians, and IT teams to improve medication safety and pharmacy operations.
- Support the design, enhancement, testing, and validation of pharmacy workflows within EHR and pharmacy information systems.
- Review and optimize medication order sets, clinical decision support tools, formulary content, alerts, and pharmacy protocols.
- Support pharmacy system implementations, upgrades, testing, validation, and go-live activities.
- Provide clinical pharmacy input for EHR optimization initiatives, including medication ordering, verification, dispensing, and administration workflows.
- Support pharmacy automation technologies, including automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), barcode medication administration (BCMA), smart infusion pumps, and related medication management systems.
- Participate in medication-use evaluations, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety projects.
- Assist with medication database maintenance, clinical content review, and workflow validation.
- Identify opportunities to improve pharmacy efficiency, reduce medication errors, and enhance compliance with regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot pharmacy workflow and application issues in collaboration with technical teams and vendors.
- Develop and review pharmacy documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and user guides.
- Provide education and support to pharmacists and end users on pharmacy technology solutions.
- Assist with reporting, analytics, and data-driven pharmacy improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy).
- Active U.S. Pharmacist license preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience in an acute care setting.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience supporting pharmacy informatics, EHR optimization, or medication technology initiatives.
- Strong understanding of inpatient pharmacy operations, medication management workflows, and clinical pharmacy practices.
- Experience with pharmacy information systems and/or major EHR platforms such as Epic Willow, Cerner Millennium, Meditech, Paragon, CPSI, or similar systems.
- Experience supporting medication-related clinical applications, pharmacy automation, and technology-enabled workflow improvements.
- Strong analytical, clinical problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Board Certification such as BCPS, BCPPS, or equivalent.
- Pharmacy Informatics certification or demonstrated pharmacy informatics experience.
- Experience with Epic Willow Inpatient or Willow Ambulatory.
- Experience participating in hospital EHR implementations, upgrades, or optimization projects.
- Experience with clinical decision support, medication alerts, order sets, and formulary management.
- Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7 and FHIR.
- Experience with SQL, reporting tools, healthcare analytics, or pharmacy data analysis.
- Project management experience within hospital pharmacy, healthcare IT, or clinical transformation initiatives.
