Full Job Description

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Access Operations Department plays a vital role in ensuring patients connect seamlessly with the care they need by supporting scheduling, patient access services, and operational efficiency that enables clinical teams to focus on delivering exceptional cancer care.

The Associate Patient Access Representative serves as a key point of contact for patients beginning their care journey. The Associate Patient Access Representative supports registration, documentation, scheduling, and patient communication activities while ensuring accuracy, compassion, and operational excellence. The Associate Patient Access Representative works closely with patients, referral sources, providers, and care teams to create a positive and efficient experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience with patient registration. Additionally, proficiency with Excel and Epic or another electronic health record system is also preferred.

Position Information
Hourly Breakdown of salary range: Minimum $19.23 - Midpoint $24.03 - Maximum $28.84
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. May require some flexibility based on business needs.

Onsite training. Following successful completion of the training period, position may become hybrid.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Registration

Collects complete and accurate demographic and financial data during intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients and verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
Provides financial information to patients obtained during verification process by Financial Clearance staff, to include cost estimates, discounts, and patient financial assistance.

Patient Access

Develop an understanding of the necessity to utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinic operations.
Clearly and professionally communicates information during all patient communication.
Follow established customer service guidelines and strive to meet all reasonable patient requests.
Reliably routes patient to appropriate destination with warm transfer whenever possible.
Supports successful implementation of departmental new tools, support and operational models to improve access to care and employee workflow.
Completely and accurately captures and documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team.
Captures information using established guidelines for each area while demonstrating appropriate task prioritization and urgency.

Oral and Written Communication

Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient, referral source, MDACC physician and MDACC clinical staff regarding obstacles to access or financial clearance.
Responds to voicemail and myChart messages within one business day and answers phone calls in a timely manner (within 3 rings).
Completely and accurately documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years Healthcare, insurance, or related field.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
