Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist / Hospital Tech to join East Houston Medical Center fast-based environment! In this role, you will provide comprehensive care to patients across various settings, including IMU inpatients, emergency, intensive care. Your expertise will support patients with diverse respiratory conditions, ensuring optimal oxygenation and ventilation while promoting recovery and well-being. The ideal candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering exceptional patient care through advanced respiratory therapy / hospital tech experience.

Responsibilities

Assess patient respiratory status through observation, physical assessment, review of clinical data, and response to therapy
Administer prescribed respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, humidity therapy, and airway clearance treatments
Initiate, monitor, and adjust respiratory support equipment including ventilators, non-invasive ventilation devices, and other cardiopulmonary support equipment per physician orders and departmental protocols
Perform and assist with diagnostic procedures such as pulse oximetry, arterial blood gas collection and analysis, and pulmonary function-related testing
Monitor patient responses to treatment and communicate significant findings and changes in condition to physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary team
Respond to emergency situations including rapid response, code blue, airway management, and patient transport activities
Maintain artificial airways and provide tracheostomy and ventilator care in accordance with hospital policy and accepted standards of practice
Educate patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, treatment plans, breathing techniques, and equipment use
Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, response to care, and equipment checks in the medical record in a timely manner
Follow established infection prevention practices, departmental procedures, and hospital policies in daily practice
Maintain confidentiality and protect patient information in full compliance with HIPAA
Complete all required annual training, competency validations, and emergency preparedness drills
Maintain current knowledge of respiratory care standards, evidence-based practice, and emerging healthcare trends
Support a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and service excellence

Qualifications

Valid state licensure or certification as a Respiratory Therapist; registered or certified preferred.
experience in hospital, critical care in ICU and ER settings.
Proficiency in airway management techniques and ventilator operation is essential.
Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pulmonology, and medical terminology relevant to respiratory therapy.
Prior experience working in emergency medicine settings or with pediatric (pediatrics) and geriatric (geriatrics) populations is highly desirable.
Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and respond effectively to acute care situations.
