Finance Director
Job Description

General Responsibilities
Member of Executive Staff Committee who is responsible for the oversight of all financial aspects of major Houston not for profit. Responsibilities include working closely with Board Treasurer to ensure fiscal compliance and oversight regarding agency’s financial progress. Reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Oversee all financial operations and direct corporate financial planning and structure.
Coordinate, analyze and report the financial performance to Management and Board of Directors

(financial performance, projections and other special projects as required).

Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties.
Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms and review firms’ performance
Develop, implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide- ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting.
Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP and associated rules and regulations as well as regulations issued by applicable funding sources.
To work with Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and all other applicable board committees as required.
To supervise applicable staff associated with Finance Department.
To effectively manage accounting software systems to facilitate finance and accounting-related functions.
To actively assist in the facilitation and pursuit of grant applications related to content area.
To carry out all tasks with the highest degree of integrity.
Exercise punctuality with regards to daily work attendance, meeting and events.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance.
Must have 5+ years experience working in a management level position in accounting or finance or as a senior accountant or financial analyst position, especially Financial Edge/
At least 3 years of experience working with a non-profit organization in a finance-related capacity.

Requirements:

Blackbaud Financial Edge is a must. The candidate must have Blackbaud experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including extemporaneous platform speaking.
Must have proven employee/customer relations skills with emphasis on conflict resolution.
Must have superior time management skills and ability to interact with all levels of management.
Must have the ability to serve as a change agent to successfully move team toward a common goal.
Must understand and be capable of articulating the Houston Area Urban League message.
Experience with other not-for-profit and governmental entities.
Professional demeanor
Excellent computer skills to include proven ability in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
