The Program Specialist will work closely with the Program Team, regional leadership, and regional team to develop and promote Girl Scout programs. The Program Specialist will oversee programs in the Ann Arbor region and Saginaw region and will be required to travel to outlying areas to confirm program is delivered throughout all areas of the jurisdiction. The Program Specialist will also report to regional managers of their assigned region, and actively participate in all activities, events, and programs throughout Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM).
Essential Functions
- Office will be located in the Ann Arbor or Saginaw Regional Center.
- Working with the Program Department, the Program Specialist will help to increase girl participation in programming and facilitate programs for the Ann Arbor and Saginaw regions.
- Participate in activities within the community to further the understanding and advancement of Girl Scouting.
- Coordinate, develop, and cultivate collaborative relationships with local facilities/ organizations to offer high quality programs of interest to girls that meet council goals and objectives.
- Coordinate planning, organizing, facilitating, implementing, and working closely with research and evaluation team to evaluate girl program activities.
- Develop and implement progressive girl programming.
- Plan, organize, and hire staff for Ann Arbor Summer Day Camp, and serve as camp director.
- Oversee Ann Arbor Summer Day Camp program and staff.
- Work with the Ann Arbor and Saginaw regional teams to ensure that community spaces are kept clean and organized.
- Involve girls in the planning and implementation of programming and educational activities.
- Manage girl recognition, including all communications and training/information sessions.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate Highest Awards Committee members.
- Coordinate and implement higher awards and graduating senior recognition ceremony, including partnering with the Communications Department on the Highest Awards Book.
- Plan, coordinate, and collaborate with other departments to meet mutual priorities.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budget projections for programs/activities and monitor budgets.
- Participate as a member of the regional team by assisting team members in other departments to accomplish GSHOM goals.

Travel
This position requires up to 50% travel. Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license with a good record. The ability to travel council wide. Frequent travel within the council to various meeting locations with staff and volunteers.
Travel is primarily during the business day and evening/weekend hours. Some overnight travel may be expected.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- Knowledge of Girl Scout program highly desired
- Prior non-profit experience preferred
- Experience with creating educational programs, budgets and timelines
- Educational background preferred
Work Schedule
- This is a full-time/non-exempt position and will work up to 40 hours per week. May be required to work more hours as needed.
- Will work a variable schedule each week depending upon need.
- Position requires candidates to work many evenings and weekends.
Work Environment
Operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and a point of sale system. Will work at various programming and training sites including outside vendors and camp properties.
