Full Job Description

Position Title: Athletic DirectorLocation: Grafton Public SchoolsSupervisor: Superintendent of SchoolsPosition Purpose: To provide leadership, collaboration, and coordination among the various sports at the middle and high school level (grades 7-12) and to facilitate programs that provide students with worthwhile learning experiences both on and off the field.Job Responsibilities: Make recommendations concerning the entire scope of interscholastic athletic programs with a specific focus on ensuring participant safety;Coordinate interscholastic athletic activities and foster a creative and supportive environment for interscholastic athletic development;Work cooperatively with the administrative staff and coaching staff in the development of a unified, District-wide interscholastic and interscholastic athletic program;Work with Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and area athletic directors to enhance the Districts interscholastic athletic programs;Communicate behavioral and academic expectations to all athletes and their families and collaborate with building administration regarding behavioral and academic violations;Supervise and evaluate coaches and related athletic staff and shall make recommendations for the hiring and rehiring of coaches and related athletic staff;Schedule all interscholastic and interscholastic athletic contests, which includes the rescheduling of any postponed contests, notification of media and securing necessary transportation as well as providing technical support in other areas of expertise as a resource to principals and the District;Keep abreast of new developments in athletics through readings, conferences, and other means of gathering training and knowledge and disseminate information to members of the administrative and coaching staffs on a regular basis.Coordinate communication processes to facilitate interaction among coaches in different schools within the District and to guarantee the sharing of ideas gained by individual coachesProvide training of all coaches and related athletic staff in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, conduct pre-season meetings with coaches to review the Athletic Handbook and to review all pertinent operational procedures and conduct additional in-season meetings as needed. Supervise and coordinate the ordering and utilization of equipment and materials.Coordinate the publicity efforts and social media accounts for the Districts Athletic Program and to work with local media and coaches in this area.Be responsible for all equipment and the storing and repair of the same for the Districts Athletic Program. This includes keeping an inventory of all equipment; and, Conduct other staff duties and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent or High School Principal, including attending meetings as requested or required, preparing seasonal reports that highlight individual and team participation and performance, attending and participating in community meetings and working with community organizations such as booster Clubs, and any other staff function required by the Superintendent or High School PrincipalMinimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in related fieldExperience in a supervisory roleDemonstrated evidence of organizational and coordination skillsDemonstrated evidence of highly-effective written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications: Masters degree in related fieldMassachusetts DESE Administrator licensure as Principal/Assistant Principal and/or Supervisor/DirectorFive (5) plus years experience in a supervisory rolePosition Type: FLSA Non-ExemptWork Year: 215 days per year (183 days as outlined in the Teachers contract, plus 32 additional days to be coordinated with the immediate supervisor)Work Day: The work day is generally considered to be 8-hours with flexibility as needed to attend to responsibilities. The Athletic Director recognizes that their responsibilities and conduct are not determined by prescribed hours and conditions, and they will expend the time and effort necessary to effectively achieve the goals and purposes of the District.

Salary/Pay Rate: $95,000-105,000 annually, commensurate with experienceEvaluation Process: Annual/biannual evaluations will be conducted by the immediate supervisor in accordance with the Massachusetts DESE educator evaluation system.
