Full Job Description

Job Title: Life Enrichment and Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Assisted Living Director

Job Summary:

This position will research, implement and monitor recreational activities for residents based on individual preferences, life legacy and the five Pillars of Prelude. Requires flexibility, self-motivation and a desire to work with elders with memory loss.

The Life Enrichment and Volunteer Coordinator will utilize community resources to develop relationships and establish core volunteer members.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Resident Social Activity/Engagement

· Develop and follow monthly activity calendar

· Demonstrate skills in leading group activities and 1:1 as they relate to dementia

· Provide activities that are appropriate to the needs, age and interest of our residents

· Act as a role model for caregivers for meaningful engagement and communication

· Establish a solid understanding of the five pillars of Prelude and how to incorporate into daily activities

· Assure all activities are documented prior to end of shift

Department Expectations

· Maintain a clean and organized storage area for all supplies

· Attend monthly caregiver meetings, resident care conferences and other meetings as assigned

· Plan and coordinate facility newsletter; maintain extra copies in entry way and distributes 1st of month via email to families

· Maintain monthly budget and inventory list and supplies of activity equipment. Follow budget guidelines

· Complete assigned role of life legacy, leisure activity assessment in RTask and resident picture upon admission

· Resident non-personal mail will be placed in resident mail slips timely and accurately

Volunteer Program

· Recruits and selects volunteers based on the needs of Prelude and residents served

· Notify supervisor of new volunteer to complete proper training per licensing compliance

· Maintain personnel files on all volunteers

· Ensure that all volunteers are comfortable and effective in their volunteer assignments

· Supervise volunteers when they are on-site

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to reprioritize to accommodate needs of the residents. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must pass a criminal background check consistent with the requirements of the Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check Act.

Education, Experience, Certification, Licenses

· BA/BS degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management or COTA preferred

· Previous experience providing recreation in Dementia care setting

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, residents and other employees of the organization.

Required Skills & Abilities:

· Must be punctual and have good attendance, provide proper notice of tardiness or absences.

· Must be compassionate toward the elderly and/or those with cognitive impairment, and work with tact and ethical awareness

· Must respond appropriately to safety hazards, fire drills and emergency situations.

· Must be mature and emotionally stable, use a calm, kind of tone voice with residents, staff and family members.

· Attends department meetings as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, bend and walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear and taste and smell.

Working Conditions:

· The noise is usually moderate

· Primary responsibilities will be conducted in clean, well-lit, climate-controlled area

· Exposure to body fluids, infections, odors and behaviors of residents

· Minimal responsibilities will be conducted outdoors
