Full Job Description

CB Design/Build is looking for a qualified lead carpenter/ foreman. The right candidate will have at least 10 years’ experience, ability to run a crew of carpenters, oversee subcontractors, order materials, review plans and create a schedule. Must be a master craftsman that can handle any aspect of a build project. Time management is crucial to the success of the project and keeping the job on budget for the clients. Crew management and workplace moral is key, keeping employees busy, safe and happy is a must. We are a family run business that treats its employees as family. We offer great benefits and top pay!

Lead carpenter

A lead carpenter should possess the skills to complete all aspects required to build a house from the ground up. They should be able to manage a crew of workers and help them in areas where a carpenters expertise is needed. The lead should be able to develop a schedule and have weekly goals. This includes ordering materials, arranging sub contractors, alerting project manager of required inspections. The lead carpenter should make sure that all safety guidelines are in effect and being followed. The lead should also make sure that their job site is clean, safe and presentable in case of homeowner visits.

Scheduling

The lead carpenter should have a minimum of 2 weeks scheduled for their crew. This includes duties at their current job or fill in work for down times. The lead should have arranged time for subcontractors to perform work in conjunction with their own schedule. The foreman or project manager will handle communication with the subcontractor. The lead should know when building inspections are due and alert the project manager for scheduling inspections. Plans and scope of work will be provided for the lead, the lead should review these and know every aspect of the job.

Materials

The lead should be ordering all materials in advance of needing them. The lead will provide the foreman with the order so that he can call it in. Larger or special order materials will be ordered by the project manager, but the lead should insure that this is happening. Small items that are needed the same day should be ordered and then picked up by office staff.

Quality Control

It is the responsibility of the lead to ensure that the project is completed accurately and on time. The phrase “we’ll go back and fix that later” or “that's good enough” is not acceptable. Any mistakes knowingly made, will be repaired at the cost of the lead carpenter. Claverack Builders pays and provides the resources for all aspects of a project to be done correctly, the first time. If you feel that you don’t have the resources to complete a task correctly call management. If a lead decides to do something incorrectly for any reason, they will be responsible for correcting it.

Moral

The workplace needs to be cohesive to be productive. As a lead it is your responsibility to make sure that everyone is focused and in good spirits. If someone is having an issue you should bring it to the attention of managment immediately. Also any yelling, swearing, belittling of employees will not be tolerated. Mistakes and injuries can happen when an employee is distracted. We need to do our best to resolve all issues, so employees can work without distractions.

Communication

Communication is key and the lines of communication are always available. The only poor communication is when the discussion isn’t initiated. In short, management and Jock are always available, but we don’t know if there is an issue unless you tell us. Gossip is the poorest form of communication and creates issues instead of resolving them. If a lead has a question or an issue they should contact management immediately.

Safety

Jobsite safety is a critical component to construction. All safety measures should be followed at all times. If there is ever a situation where someone feels unsafe, stop immediately and check with the foreman or management. Any equipment needed for a safe jobsite will be provided upon request. The foreman is in charge of safety management, all questions should be directed to him.

Tsheets

The lead should be clocking in and out on the correct job under the correct category with proper notes. Proper time tracking is critical for the company to properly provide estimates and reconcile the job, please keep accurate time sheets. The lead should also make sure that all employees under them are doing the same. The lead should be at the jobsite 15 minutes before the start of work and be the last person to leave.

Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour
