OPPORTUNITY
Catskill Montessori School (CMS) is a private, non-profit school inspired by the permaculture ethics of people care, earth care, and fair share, on 63 acres nestled between the Mahicannituck and the Catskill Mountains. CMS is equidistant from Boston and New York City (about two hours), with many quaint towns nearby, including Hudson, with Amtrak service to NYC. Catskill offers the charm, culture, and environment of the Hudson Valley.
Our campus features a working greenhouse, fruit orchards, outdoor/forest classrooms, and farm animals, including Nigerian dwarf goats and chickens, alongside 16 acres of forests, trails, and rivers. At CMS, hands-on student learning extends well beyond the classroom into this living landscape.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified in Elementary Mathematics with an Elementary School MACTE credential or Montessori training preferred (applicants currently in training or willing to undergo training are encouraged to apply).
- Strong background in science education, previous math/science teaching experience, and experience working with students aged 6-12 in a classroom environment.
- Passion for developing new programmatic offering that blends hands-on learning with the natural world.
- Interest or experience in farming, permaculture, or similar ecological fields is a plus!
- Active enthusiasm for developing a program that embodies CMS’ founding principles of People Care, Fair Share, and Earth Care in a nurturing environment.
- Ability to work well and positively as part of a team, with basic computer skills and explicit knowledge of Google Suite.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
COMPENSATION & HOURS
- Part-time, 1099 independent contractor
- $30-$40 per hour (commensurate with experience)
- A highly flexible, part-time role (just a few hours per week) following our balanced-year calendar. Morning availability Monday-Thursday is preferred, but we will collaborate with you to design a custom schedule within our standard school day (9:00 am - 3:30 pm).
