Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Compliance, Governance & Policy serves as the organization’s subject matter expert for compliance, governance, and risk management within a donor advised fund environment. This role provides strategic oversight of policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational objectives. The position partners closely with leadership to support audit readiness, strengthen governance, and ensure consistent, well-documented operational practices across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the organization’s internal subject matter expert on donor advised fund compliance, charitable grantmaking requirements, and nonprofit governance practices.
Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments; assess impact and recommend appropriate policy, procedural, or operational updates.
Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of organizational policies, governance documents, procedural standards, and internal control frameworks.
Identify compliance, operational, documentation, and reputational risks and recommend mitigation strategies aligned with organizational risk tolerance.
Establish and maintain standards, documentation requirements, and procedural guidance for grantmaking, fund administration, and related fiscal activities.
Develop frameworks, review criteria, and escalation protocols for complex or nonstandard grant scenarios, including international, scholarship, and high-risk grants.
Oversee governance of custodian and investment account documentation, including account opening, maintenance, organizational representation, and control requirements.
Define and maintain standard documentation packages, workflows, communication protocols, and tracking and retention processes across custodian relationships.
Build and manage relationships with custodians and external partners to improve consistency, streamline processes, and support timely issue resolution.
Ensure alignment between policies, procedures, systems, forms, and workflows; evaluate and recommend technology enhancements and process improvements.
Establish and maintain centralized documentation standards, including version control, repository management, accessibility, and support for onboarding and organizational knowledge transfer.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
7+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, governance, donor advised funds, charitable gift administration, financial services, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.
Strong understanding of donor advised fund administration, charitable grantmaking considerations, and nonprofit governance practices.
Experience operating within a regulated or highly controlled environment.
Excellent written communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
Ability to translate complex regulatory and operational requirements into practical organizational standards.
Strong cross-functional collaboration and relationship management skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide functional guidance and subject matter expertise across teams.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Primarily sedentary work in an office environment.
Frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment.
Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
Position is based in Hudson, Ohio with primarily on-site work and limited hybrid flexibility.
