Full Job Description

POSITION: Plant Electrical Manager

LOCATION: Traveling Role. Travel to plant and project sites across Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.

BASE PAY: $105,000 - $130,000 (industry leading total compensation package)

JOB SUMMARY

The Plant Electrical Manager owns the electrical program for WW Clyde's aggregate production and asphalt plants. You are the electrician for these operations, which means every startup, every teardown, every breakdown call, and every troubleshooting decision runs through you.

The work covers portable and stationary crushing plants, asphalt plants, conveyor systems, and shop equipment. You will commission plants when they mobilize, tear them down when they move, keep them running in between, and respond when something goes down mid production.

Because you are the only electrician, the job is more than turning wrenches. You will build the preventive maintenance program, decide what spares to carry, document electrical systems, teach operators and mechanics enough to handle first line diagnosis, and know when to bring in an outside contractor.

We are looking for someone who can walk onto a plant they have never seen, read the panel, and figure it out.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Serve as the sole electrical authority for WW Clyde aggregate and asphalt plant operations, owning all electrical work from installation through troubleshooting and repair.

· Lead the electrical scope of plant mobilization and startup, including power distribution setup, generator and switchgear connection, grounding per MSHA requirements, motor and control wiring, and commissioning checks before production begins.

· Lead the electrical scope of plant teardown and demobilization, ensuring safe disconnection, proper cable and component handling, and documentation of the configuration for the next setup.

· Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults across crushing plants, asphalt plants, conveyors, and shop equipment, including PLCs, VFDs, motor control centers, instrumentation loops, and power distribution up to 600V.

· Respond to breakdown calls during production, including after hours and weekends when a plant is down and production is waiting.

· Build and run the preventive maintenance program for plant electrical systems, including inspection schedules, thermal imaging, insulation testing, and component replacement before failure.

· Read, interpret, and maintain electrical schematics, control drawings, and as built documentation for all plants. Create documentation where it does not exist.

· Manage electrical parts and spares inventory, sourcing components and maintaining enough stock to keep a plant down time short.

· Train plant operators, mechanics, and foremen on safe electrical practices, lockout/tagout, and basic first line troubleshooting so simple issues do not require a callout.

· Evaluate when work should be self performed versus contracted out. Source, scope, and manage outside electrical contractors when needed.

· Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code, MSHA regulations, OSHA standards, and WW Clyde safety policy.

· Recommend electrical upgrades, controls improvements, and capital replacements. Provide input on cost, downtime impact, and payback.

· Develop working knowledge of plant operations, including how crushing and asphalt production actually run, so electrical decisions support production rather than fighting it.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Journeyman Electrician license, or Master Electrician license, valid in Utah or reciprocal.

· Minimum 7 years of industrial electrical experience, with significant time on aggregate crushing plants, asphalt plants, or comparable heavy industrial processing equipment.

· Demonstrated ability to work fully independently. This role has no other electrician to consult and no supervisor checking the work.

· Hands on experience troubleshooting PLCs, VFDs, motor control centers, and instrumentation (4-20 mA) in a production environment.

· Experience with power distribution systems up to 600V, including portable plant power generation, switchgear, transformers, and grounding systems.

· Ability to read, interpret, and modify complex electrical schematics and control drawings.

· Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and MSHA electrical requirements for surface mining and aggregate operations.

· Proficiency with electrical test equipment including multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, and thermal imaging.

· Willingness to travel throughout Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado, including overnight stays during plant moves and startups. Willingness to respond to breakdown calls outside standard hours.

· Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in the dust, heat, cold, and noise of an active plant site.

· Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

PREFERRED

· Master Electrician license.

· MSHA electrical qualification, or ability to obtain within the first year.

· Experience with plant mobilization and demobilization on portable crushing or asphalt spreads.

· PLC programming or ladder logic modification experience (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar).

· Experience with asphalt plant control systems and burner controls.

· Experience building or managing a preventive maintenance program and spares inventory.

· MSHA Part 46/48 training, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E arc flash training.

· Experience training non electricians on safe electrical practices and basic troubleshooting.
