Full Job Description

Southwestern Community Action Council is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to facilitate the social and economic well-being of low-income families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne counties in West Virginia. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Shelter, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), and Veteran Supportive Services.
We currently have an opening for an Infant Toddler Educator Trainee for our Head Start/Early Head Start program in Cabell County, WV to join our team and achieve great things together.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; must obtain CDA (Child Development Associate) within 14 months of hire. Desire to work with young children. Strong interest in improving self and community. Self-motivated with the ability to work without direct supervision. Good writing skills. Current valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and adequate auto insurance coverage. Must pass drug screen and background check. Must pass a physical exam every two years.

Position Details (This is a sampling of duties and responsibilities of this position & does not include all other duties that may be assigned.)
Develop and maintain a safe, clean, healthy and nurturing environment at all times. Assist Primary Caregiver in developing each child’s curriculum that meets individual needs. Encourage development, building trust and fostering independence. Support each child’s learning. Promote interaction and language use among children. Assist in providing activities that promote the development of emerging communication skills of infants and toddlers. Assist in development of physical skills of infants and toddlers, including gross motor skills such as grasping, pulling, pushing, crawling, and walking. Observe and record child’s progress. Assist in completing developmental assessments. Encourage families to become engaged in school readiness activities. Assist in using positive guidance techniques to direct behavior and develop children’s confidence and self-esteem. Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality. Data entry. Must obtain or maintain CPR, First Aid, driver’s license and any other necessary credentials.
