Position Summary
Centerport Yacht Club (CYC) is seeking an experienced, service-oriented Waterfront Director/Dockmaster to lead all aspects of our waterfront operations. This leadership role is responsible for delivering an exceptional member boating experience while ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the Club's waterfront facilities, docks, moorings, and waterfront assets.
The successful candidate will foster a collaborative team culture by working closely with the General Manager, Rear Commodore, Waterfront Committee, Sailing Director, committee chairs, and waterfront staff. This individual will lead by example, maintain the highest standards of customer service, and oversee all waterfront operations while meeting the Club's operational and financial objectives.
The Waterfront Director/Dockmaster reports directly to the General Manager with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Rear Commodore and Waterfront Committee Chair.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Direct the day-to-day operation of all waterfront facilities and related services.
- Lead, supervise, schedule, train, and mentor seasonal waterfront staff to provide outstanding member and guest service.
- Coordinate staffing and waterfront support for junior sailing, adult sailing, regattas, swim team activities, and special Club events.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Waterfront & Asset Management
- Oversee the commissioning, decommissioning, maintenance, repair, and storage of all Club-owned vessels and equipment, including:
- Three Fortier launches
- Lady Hawke race committee boat
- Six RIBs
- Two Boston Whalers
- Two skiffs
- Three Ideal 18 sailboats
- Sailing dinghies
- Boat trailers
- Boat hoist
- Utility quad
- Coordinate seasonal dock and float installation and removal with contractors while considering tides, weather, and the Club calendar.
- Manage ongoing maintenance to ensure the waterfront remains safe, attractive, and fully operational.
Member & Guest Services
- Manage member mooring assignments, relocations, and seasonal planning.
- Oversee guest mooring reservations and rentals through Dockwa.
- Build positive relationships with members, guests, contractors, vendors, and local agencies.
- Resolve member concerns professionally while maintaining a high standard of hospitality.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage the annual waterfront operating budget.
- Monitor expenses, inventory, and purchasing while maintaining sound financial controls.
- Maximize operational efficiency through proactive maintenance and effective staffing.
- Coordinate employee training in partnership with the General Manager.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, USCG, Department of Labor, and DEEP regulations.
- Ensure timely reporting of accidents, incidents, and safety concerns.
- Maintain a safe working environment for employees, members, and guests.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager, Rear Commodore, or designated committee leadership.
Qualifications
Preferred Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of marina, waterfront, yacht club, or facilities management experience.
- Experience supervising seasonal employees and managing daily operations.
- Experience with budgeting, purchasing, inventory control, accounts payable/receivable, and vendor management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) designation is a plus.
Required Certifications
- Valid USCG Master License
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (current or ability to obtain).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and supplies.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and sit for extended periods.
- Must be able to safely board and operate boats as required.
