Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. They will provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The Instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Personnel Handbook.

Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees
Local Salary "L" Schedule - Part-Time

Hourly Wage - $33.11 per hour

Work Hours: Maximum of (19) hours per week.

Work Hours: Classes are taught day, evening, and weekends on the Huntsville campus. In addition, multiple forms of distance education are offered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Instructor shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook.

Perform non-credit training for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program
Deliver each class to ensure an effective learning experience
Submit a course plan for each course taught
Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area
Incorporate current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology (if applicable) into the learning experience
Provide classroom instruction in accordance with approved course outlines
Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student
Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.e., preparation and punctuality)
Perform additional essential job functions that are unique to the instructor position and/or teaching field
Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development, Assistant Dean of Instruction, Dean of Instruction, and/or the President

Job description may be modified at any time by management.

Qualifications

Adult teaching experience as evidenced by one (1) of the following:
- Earned Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- Attended an approved Alabama Train-the-Trainer course
- Completed instructor training at the American Red Cross (include copy of instructor certification)
- Experience teaching at the college level
Minimum of two (2) years of full-time nursing experience
Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience caring for geriatric patients
Current active and unencumbered Alabama Nursing License (RN or LPN)
Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross-Basic Life Support for healthcare providers with AED.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
