The Building and Grounds Operations Manager is responsible for the administrative, financial, and daily operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds of the State Fairgrounds during annual State Fair and non-fair times to ensure facilities and services meet the needs of building occupants and fairground visitors in an efficient, economical and safe fashion. This position is responsible for:

Organizing, directing, guiding and evaluating all maintenance staff in the maintenance of grounds, buildings and equipment.
Overseeing custodial and ground maintenance services for several events.
Maintaining the physical assets of the fairgrounds including buildings, grounds, equipment, and supplies.
Performing job and safety training for staff.

The Building and Grounds Operations Manager requires exceptional people skills as there is daily interaction working with permanent and seasonal staff, inmates, event planners, and the general public.

This position works in a multitude of settings to include typical offices, shop environments, and a wide variety of construction and maintenance sites throughout the fairgrounds. Some tasks may require standing, bending, working on roofs, ladders, and scaffolding. Exposure to inclement weather, and dangers associated with power tools, large equipment, and electricity are present in this role. The work schedule is subject to change, general winter hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and summer hours are 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. with some weekends and evenings. This role requires working extended hours every day prior to and during the annual State Fair, and larger non-fair events, as well as being on call. During peak activity times this position works extra daily hours and has periods with no days off.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a valid driver's license.

accurately estimate building costs and material requirements;
operate construction equipment and power tools;
use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook);
respond swiftly, rationally, and decisively to emergency situations;
lift up to 50 pounds;
have a full range of physical motion to operate manual, electric powered, and/or gas-powered grounds-keeping equipment and machines;
work independently and as a team;
demonstrate maturity and flexibility in working with diverse populations and personalities with competing priorities; and
work under stress and handle stressful situations effectively and professionally.
