About ZoRoCo Packaging
ZoRoCo Packaging Inc. is a food co-manufacturer operating three production facilities in Caldwell, Idaho. Our accounting and finance functions are centralized and support all three facilities.
We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to help lead our accounting function and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting of financial information across the company.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller who is ready to take on broader responsibility in a growing manufacturing environment, general ledger accounting, inventory, financial reporting, internal controls, and oversight of transactional accounting.

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of ZoRoCo's accounting records and helping manage the company's monthly financial close.
This is a hands-on role requiring both direct execution of accounting activities and oversight of key accounting processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis.
The position will work closely with the CFO, Accounts Payable, operations, purchasing, warehouse personnel, and plant leadership across our three production facilities.
A major focus of this role will be to ensure that our inventory, cost of goods sold, accounts payable, balance sheet, and general ledger accurately reflect what is occurring in our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & General Ledger
· Help lead and manage the monthly financial close process.
· Prepare and review journal entries.
· Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
· Maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
· Ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
· Review of accruals, prepaid expenses, and other month-end adjustments
· Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
· Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation.
· Review financial results for unusual transactions, trends, or inconsistencies.
· Help continually improve the speed, accuracy, and consistency of the monthly close process.
Financial Reporting
· Assist the CFO with preparation of monthly financial statements.
· Review income statement and balance sheet activity for accuracy.
· Prepare supporting schedules and financial analysis.
· Investigate significant account fluctuations and variances.
· Help develop useful financial reporting for management and plant leadership.
· Assist with budgeting and forecasting as needed.
· Support outside CPA, tax, banking, insurance, and other financial information requests.
Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting
Inventory accounting will be an important part of this position.
Responsibilities include:
· Reconcile raw material and packaging inventory between our ERP systems and general ledger.
· Review and reconcile inventory adjustments.
· Assist with physical inventories and cycle counts.
· Investigate inventory discrepancies with warehouse and operations personnel.
· Ensure inventory transactions are properly reflected in the financial statements.
· Review inventory valuation and cost of goods sold.
· Assist with analysis of material usage, yield, scrap, and other manufacturing variances.
· Help improve inventory controls and accounting processes across all three facilities.
· Support development of better manufacturing and product-cost information.
Manufacturing accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Accounts Payable Oversight
ZoRoCo has a dedicated Accounts Payable Specialist who owns the day-to-day AP process.
The Assistant Controller will provide accounting oversight of AP, including:
· Review AP aging and significant or unusual transactions.
· Review AP accruals and cut-off at month-end.
· Help resolve accounting issues related to purchase orders, receiving, invoices, and vendor accounts.
· Review payment batches in accordance with company controls.
· Ensure transactions flowing from our ERP and CMMS systems into QuickBooks are complete and accurate.
· Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls.
· Serve as backup and support when needed.
Our AP environment includes multiple purchasing systems across three production facilities, including three ERP systems, three CMMS systems, and QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop.
Accounts Receivable & Revenue
· Provide accounting oversight of customer invoicing and accounts receivable.
· Review AR aging and customer balances.
· Assist with unusual customer deductions, credits, or account discrepancies.
· Ensure revenue and customer credits are recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
· Assist with customer account reconciliations when necessary.
· Maintain appropriate controls over customer credits and adjustments.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
We are looking for someone who doesn't simply maintain existing processes but looks for ways to make them better.
Responsibilities include:
· Develop and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
· Identify opportunities to automate or simplify accounting processes.
· Improve reconciliations between ERP systems and QuickBooks.
· Establish consistent accounting processes across all three facilities.
· Document accounting procedures.
· Identify control weaknesses and recommend practical solutions.
· Help reduce manual work and unnecessary administrative processes.
· Improve the quality and timeliness of financial information.
Systems
The Assistant Controller will work with and oversee accounting information flowing through:
· QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop
· Multiple manufacturing ERP systems
· Multiple CMMS / maintenance purchasing systems
· Microsoft Excel
· Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications
Experience with our exact ERP or CMMS systems is not required. However, candidates must be comfortable learning new systems and working with data across multiple platforms.
Qualifications Required
Strong Excel skills are important for this position.
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
· Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
· Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
· Strong balance sheet reconciliation skills.
· Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries.
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
· Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
· Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and operations personnel.
· Comfortable working in a hands-on accounting environment.
Preferred
· Accounting experience in manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, or another inventory-intensive business.
· Experience with inventory accounting and reconciliation.
· Experience with manufacturing cost accounting.
· Experience with ERP systems.
· Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop.
· Experience supervising or reviewing the work of AP, AR, or other accounting personnel.
· Experience working with multiple facilities or business units.
· CPA or CMA certification is a plus but not required.
